There was something about this headache, Aariz thought.

Initially, nothing had seemed unsual about it and Aariz had though of it as an ordinary pain in the head, probably rising due to physical and mental exhaustion. But when it didn’t subside even after taking analgesics, he had consulted his doctor who had finally announced that Aariz was having intense manic-depressive episodes combined with severe migraine.

It was when Komal came to his house and met Zeest that it began to happen. Since then, its intensity had only increased.

Today, the burning episodes of pain were so acute that he couldn’t go to work.

He groaned involuntarily as the sharp wave gripped his skull, shaking him from head to toe.

Hearing his groan, Zeest hurried toward his bed. With trembling fingers, she tapped his forehead and gasped. He was burning with fever.

“Let me call the doctor.”
“No…” He stopped her in a weak voice. “I saw him yesterday evening. He said its migraine and prescribed some medicines.”
“Tell me.” She got closer, thinking what she could do to make him feel better. “If you need anything to eat or drink, don’t hesitate.”
“No….” He m0aned. “It’s just that my head is bursting with pain.” He pressed his forehead, rubbing his hands up and down his temples.

Zeest could see his painful expression. She had to help him somehow. Without thinking, she drew closer and sat down on the edge of his bed, near his pillow.

“Let me press your head.” She offered softly. “It would help.”
Instead of giving her a reply, he just closed his eyes. Understanding his gesture as a permission to go ahead. She started to press.

Zeest first smoothed Aariz’s riotous curls, which he hadn’t bothered to comb, and then started to press his head and forehead. It did make him feel better.

Her fingers dived into his hair, removing all the pain, relieving all the tensions and worries.

This sort of feeling was new for Aariz yet seemed not totally strange. Only then he realized that it was almost like as if his beloved, someone close to him, was helping him, someone who really cared for him and someone who understood what he’s going through.

Gradually, her soft slender fingers began to do magic on him. As she caressed the smooth skin of his forehead, she watched his eyes flutter closed. She thought he was asleep, but in real, he had lowered his lashes to hide the revelation in his eyes.

He managed, trying desperately to ignore the warmth of her palms against his head. But those magical fingers were determined to make him forget everything. Her velvety touch was feather-like, something he had never experienced in his whole life.

Exactly the same time, footsteps were heard on the stairs and the door opened with a blast, as Komal stood at the doorway.

For a few moments, she just stood there, stunned, speechless and breathless, her eyes fixed on Zeest’s hands combing through Aariz’s hair, and then they moved to Aariz, who was totally unaware of the situation with his eyes closed and mind faraway.

Komal felt her jaw go slack despite her efforts to maintain control.

“Accept my heartiest apology for disturbing your privacy, Mr and Mrs. Aariz.” She spoke through her clenched teeth.

Aariz was startled. “Komal?” His brows came together in a frown.

“I gather I was not expected.” She tried but couldn’t smile, her shoulder-length brown hair fell forward, hiding the hurt, which sprang into her equally brown eyes.

“Bye.” Komal said huskily. “And have fun.” Without any further word, she swung on her heel and stormed out, leaving them alone.

Aariz hadn’t even straightened up when he heard the door slam. “What the hell!” Cursing, he pushed himself to a full height and ran behind her.

Blindly, Komal was swinging back to the front door, but Aariz barred her way.

“I…. I hope you’ll both be very happy.” She stammered, bursting into tears. “I guess, I better leave you two alone now.”
“Wait, if I knew you…….you were coming, I would have……. I am sorry.” He stammered.

“You would have what? Baked a cake?” She turned with force and gave him a sharp reply. “Don’t bother apologizing, Aariz. I’m the one who’s sorry…….for barging in on you like this.”
“What do you mean?”
“I spoiled some good moments between husband and wife.” She muttered huskily.

Aariz gripped her elbow and propelled her into the living room.

“You know damn well its you I love.”
“You’ve a funny way of showing it.”
“Zeest means nothing to me.”
“That I can believe!” She retorted. “No girl means anything to you.”
“She’s not my wife practically. Don’t you know the difference?” He retorted.

“Damn right! I know the difference. You are the one who doesn’t.” She shuddered.
