23 Benue Villagers Killed In Fresh Attack
No fewer than 23 people have been reportedly killed when suspected Fulani herdsmen allegedly invaded villages in Logo local government area of Benue State.
The nomadic Fulani have been blamed for waves of attacks on largely agrarian groups, with tensions high over access to land and other basic rights.
The state police spokesman, Austin Ezeani, who confirmed the incident to Hausa service of the British Broadcasting Corporation, said the motive for the latest attack had not yet been established, adding that officers had been deployed to the targeted villages.
“The people are still living under fear and panic but we have assured them of adequate security,” the spokesman said.
