Bob Iger Details Marvel Plans to Limit Movies and TV Show Output

Moving forward, Marvel is emphasizing quality, not quantity. During Disney’s quarterly earnings call on Tuesday, CEO Bob Iger detailed Marvel’s plans to scale back and limit the number of projects per year.

“We’re slowly going to decrease volume and go to probably about two TV series a year instead of what had become four, and reduce our film output from maybe four a year to two, or a maximum of three,” Iger said via Variety. “And we’re working hard on what that path is.”

Iger teased the upcoming schedule of movies and TV shows, including a “couple of good films in ’25,” followed by more Avengers films.

“Overall, I feel great about the slate,” Iger added. “It’s something that I’ve committed to spending more and more time on. The team is one that I have tremendous confidence in and the IP that we’re mining, including all the sequels that we’re doing, is second to none.”

What Movies and TV Shows are on Marvel’s Upcoming Slate?

The only MCU film on tap for 2024 is Deadpool & Wolverine, the highly anticipated third film in Ryan Reynolds’s Deadpool series. Without counting 2020 (pandemic year), 2024 is the first year since 2012 that Marvel will only release one film. Deadpool & Wolverine arrives in theaters on July 26, 2024.

Four MCU movies are coming in 2025 because of delays caused by the 2023 labor strikes. These include Captain America: Brave New World on February 14, 2025; Thunderbolts on May 5, 2025; The Fantastic Four on July 25, 2025; and Blade on November 7, 2025.

Meanwhile, Avengers 5 is scheduled for May 1, 2026, with Avengers: Secret Wars premiering the following year on May 7, 2027.

In television, the only live-action MCU series confirmed for late 2024 is Agatha, the WandaVision spin-off starring Kathryn Hahn as Agatha Harkness. Notable live-action MCU series on the way include Daredevil: Born Again, Ironheart, and Wonder Man.
