Audu’s family commends Bello for renaming State University after him

The family of the former governor of Kogi, the late Alhaji Abubakar Audu, has commended Gov. Yahaya Bello of the state, for naming the state university after him.
In a statement issued in Lokoja on Monday, the Senior Special Assistant on Media to the governor, Mr Adamu Idako, said that the younger brother of the late Audu, Alhaji Yahaya Audu, made the commendation while receiving a posthumous award on his behalf.
The award was conferred on the late former governor and 24 other prominent indigenes of the state as part of activities to mark the 25th anniversary of the creation of the state.

The university, formerly called Kogi State University, Ayangba, will now be called Abubakar Audu University, Ayangba.


The younger Audu, who was at the government house on August 28 to collect the award, said that the family of the late politician was humbled by the honour done to him by the state government.

According to him, it is the administration of Yahaya Bello that has duly recognised the former governor’s contributions to the development of the state by naming a university after him and conferring on him a posthumous award, among others.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the late Audu, who was the governor of the state from 1991 to 1993 and 1999 to 2003, was also the candidate for the All Progressives Congress ( APC) in the Nov. 21, 2015 governorship election in the state.

Accompanied by some notable political associates of his late brother, the younger Audu urged the people of the state to live in peace and cooperate with the present governor to realise the dream of the former governor for the state.


According to him, the family will continue to support the state government in its efforts to better the lots of the ordinary people.(NAN)
