Hired Bride - Season 1 - Episode 27

The next morning, Kelsey woke up with heaviness in her eyes. She must have cried a lot last night since she felt that her eyes were swollen. She slowly sat up but felt a weigh on her stomach, preventing her from fully sitting up. She glanced down and saw Chloe’s head laying on her stomach. Chloe was sleeping soundly with her mouth slightly agape. Kelsey leaned her back against the tower of pillows by her head and studied the little girl in front of her. Kelsey swept the strands of hair that was covering Chloe’s face and soothingly rubbed her head with her hand. Kelsey was completely fixated on Chloe’s features that she didn’t even realize that Mason was by the door leaning his body against the doorframe with his arms cross around his chest. “She was crying last night and didn’t want to sleep beside me. She said she wanted to sleep next to you.” Mason spoke, earning Kelsey’s attention. Kelsey smiled at the thought of Mason trying to soothe a crying Chloe. It must have been tough for him since he couldn’t even catch her yesterday when they were playing around the penthouse.

Kelsey then realized that she must have been really tired yesterday since she didn’t even noticed Chloe sleeping next to her. She didn’t even know that she cried. “Are you feeling better?” Mason asked as he strolled towards the bed. “Yeah, I guess I was just a bit emotional last night. Maybe I just miss my family.” She reasoned out remembering her mother and her siblings. Mason sat by the foot of the bed and stared at Kelsey and Chloe. He didn’t know what he was thinking but he really was desiring for a family the moment he watched Kelsey and Chloe last night and how they bonded. “You’ll be a great mother one day.” Mason blurted out, causing Kelsey to stare at him weirdly.

Mason mentally face-palmed himself and internally groaned. ‘What am I thinking?!’ He scolded at himself. “Where did that come from?” Kelsey asked as a chuckle left her lips. She quickly shut her mouth when Chloe stirred on her stomach but went back to sleep. Kelsey sighed in relief and glanced back at Mason who was trying to avoid her eyes at all costs. “Sorry, that just completely slipped out of my mouth.” He mumbled but Kelsey heard it clearly. Kelsey smiled. “It’s fine. I’ll take that as a compliment. I hope I do become a great mother one day. I wanna make sure that my child would feel all the love that I can give.” Mason was stunned by her response and he couldn’t help but feel more attracted towards her. He knew he was in a dangerous spot since falling in love were not in his vocabulary. “Child? Not children?” Mason questioned with a raised eyebrow. “Why? How many children should I have?” “Well, I was thinking, maybe three.

That’s a good number, no? One would look exactly like me, one would look like you, and the other one would have both of our features. They’ll have the best genes in the world.” Mason said earning a quiet laugh from Kelsey. He couldn’t help but let the grin passed his lips. Her smile was completely contagious. Mason wasn’t thinking at all when he had said it. But the more he spent time with Kelsey, the more he was drawn to her. It was as if she had opened his mind and his heart to the new feelings he didn’t want to experience before. But the wall he had built around his heart was starting to crumble. “You want three? Do you think I can manage that? Child labour is not an easy thing to do.” Kelsey replied and Mason couldn’t help but picture a pregnant Kelsey walking around the house barefooted. Mason smiled at the image. “Don’t worry, I’ll be here to help you out. You’re not gonna go through a pregnancy alone.” He assured her and that was the last straw for Kelsey. Mason just knew how to melt her heart and make her giddy. She knew she was falling in love with him. She was having this very strong feeling for him and it was putting her heart on the danger line. “I need to make pee.” A small voice echoed and Kelsey and Mason both looked at Chloe who was looking up to Kelsey with such innocent eyes. Kelsey smiled and nodded at her. “Alright, let’s go.” She said as she helped Chloe up and get down from the bed. They strolled towards the en-suite bathroom and Mason watched the two of them in delight.

~ * ~ * ~ Since it was Saturday, Kelsey didn’t have work and Mason decided to take the day off.

The two of them decided to spend the day with Chloe and they went to the amusement park. They rode different kids rides and enjoyed their time. Mason couldn’t tell when he was last happy like he was today. He felt the joy in his heart and looking at Kelsey and Chloe laughing hysterically and having fun brought happiness in his system. When they got back to the penthouse, it was already eight at night. Mason pulled over towards the parking lot and parked the car. He and Kelsey got out and gently shut the door behind. He opened the back door and took Chloe’s seat belt from the car seat. He gently and carefully carried her as she snuggled towards him and rested her head in the crook of his neck. Kelsey smiled at the seen before her and couldn’t help to think that Mason was really good with kids. She was glad to see that deep inside his cold-hearted facade, he had a very soft spot for children. They went inside the elevator and it stopped on the ground floor where an old couple were entering. Mason and Kelsey scooted over to give the couple some space and tiredly shot them a smile.

The old woman smiled at them in delight. “What a lovely family you have there, young man.” She commented causing Mason and Kelsey to look at each other in surprise. Kelsey was going to correct her but the woman’s husband butted in. “Make sure to cherish both of them, especially your wife. Believe when I say that the best thing you wanna do is to make them happy. You know, my saying is, A happy wife means a happy life.” He spoke towards Mason and he just nodded and grinned at him. “I’ll keep that in mind. Thank you so much. I cannot ask for a better family.” Mason wholeheartedly announced and Kelsey felt her heart flutter against her chest. Once again, Mason was saying these sweet, charming words that made her heart skip a beat. The elevator door opened once again and the couple went out but not before uttering them healthy, happy lives together. When the elevator door shut closed, Mason stared at Kelsey and shot her a knowing smile. “What?” She asked annoyingly as she felt her system become giddy because of his oh-so-innocent and charming smile. Mason quietly laughed to not awaken Chloe and shook his head. “Nothing. I’m just trying to picture the two of us with cane in hands and acting all lovey-dovey like they were.” He said referring to the old couple. Kelsey tried imagining in as well and only giggled at the thought of a wrinkly Mason. Mason stared at her in amazement and he couldn’t possibly think of anyone else to spend the rest of his life with except her. He knew that he was slowly falling for her and the thought both made him nervous and excited at the same time. ~ * ~ * ~ Around 10 o’clock at night, the doorbell rang and Kelsey made her way towards the door.

She unlocked the door and behind it was no other than Lucas. He was warmly smiling at her but she could tell that he was exhausted, probably had a long day working. “Good evening, Kelsey. Sorry I came so late, I just had some businesses to do and the nanny I hired for this trip had the flu. I can only trust the King’s to take care of Chloe.” He explained and Kelsey nodded in understanding. She widened the opening of the door indicating to allow him in. He shot her another smile and uttered a quick thank-you before strolling towards the living room where Mason was, watching the news. Lucas patted Mason on the shoulder to earn his attention. Mason smiled at him and turned off the TV using the remote. “Sir Lucas, how are you?” He asked in politeness. “Very tired from work. I hope Chloe was not a pain.” “Not at all. She was an angel. We really had a lot of fun with her.” Mason truthful answered. “She’s already sleeping upstairs.” Lucas nodded in response and smiled gratefully at Mason and Kelsey. “I really appreciate your help. Thank you for taking care of my Chloe.” “It was nothing. We really had a great time with her. She’s an incredible child.” Kelsey honestly commented. “Can I get you anything? Coffee, tea?” Kelsey offered out of politeness and hospitality. Her mother have always taught her to offer the visitors and the guests of the house to make them feel comfortable. “Coffee would be nice, thank you.” He responded as Kelsey nodded and left to go to the kitchen and make him some coffee. She still remembered how her father took his coffee. Two sugar, two cream. Lucas sat beside Mason on the couch and placed his brief case on the centre table. He plopped down on the couch in exhaustion and heaved a heavy sigh. “I hope I’m not disturbing the two of you. I know it’s late and I’m really sorry if I had to pass the responsibility of taking care of a five-year-old little girl with you guys.” “Don’t worry about it, Sir Lucas. You and Chloe are always welcome in our home.” Mason affirmed. “By the way, how long are you planning to stay here for?” He asked out of curiosity. Lucas rubbed his chin as he thought of the question before answering. “Maybe a couple more weeks.

I’m planning to extend if I don’t finish what I came here for.” He responded in the most honest and best way he possibly could. “And what is that?” Mason questioned with furrowed brows. Lucas turned to Mason and looked him straight in the eyes. With all seriousness, he answered, “I’m going to find them, Mason. I’m going to fix the problem that I’ve caused. I think it’s time to heal and seal all the wounds.” Mason knew that Lucas was talking about his family. He was going to find them and he was very determined to do so.
