Story of a Survivor - Season 1 - Episode 34

☆☆

Things happened so fast! With my Captain, my
action Man, there is no procrastinating; doesnot not say what he does not mean, except of course when he jokes, he is not soft oromanticas as I have read in series of Mills and Boon novel’s he is not a man of sweet talks. However I find his toughness romantic, he is blunt and thorough just like my Father and Mr. Chinedu. He sees the
opportunity in every challenge and he is not
afraid to make mistakes, it is better to try and
fail than not to try at all; he would say. He is a
strong willed, determined and assertive young
Man. He had made me to become lazy as he
practically thinks and acts ahead of me. He is
everything I was not, he dances so well to my
admiration, he sings almost all the records he
plays, he is an extrovert while I am an introvert, as young as he is he exudes so much energy and power .

Let me leave him for now else I will not
conclude this story! I moved into my apartment and as he promised, my house is a military Zone!

My Landlord came around once and asked who the Soldier living here was: I told him that my husband is an Army Officer! A Captain. From that day he stopped addressing me as Deborah! Funny!

We set up the Shop and erected the sign post
“Derbie Couture” I went to work and designed three hundred fabrics of various sizes and shapes, we went to Ochanja market once more and bought Fifty Dummies of male and female, we were preparing for the opening ceremony exhibition.

I had already started receiving
business proposals: captain introduced me to the head mistress of Command Children School and I was given the Contract of sewing three hundred School uniforms for the School Children, All of his Colleagues introduced their Wives to me and they brought their Fabrics in their numbers for me to sew, once they come to the Shop and see the dressed Dummy I display, they would want to sew the same dress: I was already the topic of discussion when the Officers Wives sit and discuss. I made the fat women look so trim and
elegant by designing modest fitted clothing for
them instead of loud and oversized dresses that makes them bigger than they really are, I counsel them and make them understand that they are naturally endowed with big bust and hips so they should flaunt what 5they have got. Within one month of my introduction into their Clique, army offic3ers started taking their plumb wives to Tombola parties and the so called fat women gain their self-esteem.

I became a celebrity of
sort. Me, a common secondary school dropout.
The funniest thing was that this people did not
even know I was just twenty years old! I pray
they never know my real age because I was
elevated far beyond my level.

Silvia had no choice but to join in assisting me at the Shop, she had actualling registered with a modelling outfit courtesy of madam Ronke but she comes to the Shop in the evenings and
worked as an apprentice, however I do not
disrespect her, I had to prune down my
apprentice to six because of space, almost all of the Officers wives wanted their Wards and House helps to learn my trade. I told them I will admit them in instalment.

My Captain came to my Shop one afternoon
when he closed from work, did I tell you that I
am yet to see Captain in Army uniform? Hmm, I have not o! He does not wear his Uniform daily because of his Profession as a medical Doctor, he wears it only when situation demands. He came to my Shop that day and did not come down from his Car, he honked, I know the sound of his Car horn and my apprentices too, immediately he honked, mu Girls said “madam!

Oga don come” I went out to meet him, he
wound down the window and said “Come inside the car”. As I got into the Car, he revved the Car and was driving away.
Captain! I said:
where are we going to? I am wearing just Slippers and I don’t have my purse with me!, he smiled and said: Don’t worry Ada, you are okay in your Slippers and as foor your Purse, you don’t need it, I have my wallet on me.

I kept quiet and relaxed, after all, my world
revolves around him, anywhere he wants to take me to I am ready. He is full of surprises. We drove to the Orphanage that evening and we got there, I saw Tochi and Amara fully dressed and standing by their Luggage’s.

Captain had made all arrangements to remove
my younger Sisters from the Orphanage; he had secured admission for them at Command Day secondary School and had planned with the Proprietress not to tell me till the last day the Girls were to leave the Orphanage.

It was another festival of tears for me, the Girls, and their friends at the Orphanage. Captain gave the home so much food stuff and money that I cannot estimate.

My house became a full house once again Land I remembered our Child hood
days, when we all lived under the same roof witah love.
