Must Read: Caught In A Web - Season 1 - Episode 12

By 4pm I was done cooking, had a bath and was waiting for Tolu. I slept off waking up around 7pm very hungry. Since I didn’t want to start the party without her as it was her idea, I took a sachet of water to douse the tension building up in my tummy while the wait continued. I would have picked my phone to call her but didn’t want to appear eager. To while away time, I took up my phone and started surfing the internet, chatting up some friends too.

I had actually forgotten about time having been engrossed with the phone, when I had Tolu knock on the door calling out my name. On reflex, I checked the time and it was 8:30pm.
“Sorry I’m late,” she started making a puppy face when I opened the door. “Hope I haven’t killed the party mood before it’s started?” she asked with a pleading look.

I smiled crossing my hands over my chest. “Not really, just a little bit. Everything ok?”
“Yea, fine. I left work late and got caught up in traffic. I’m sorry if I kept you waiting, I should have called.” She said apologetically.
“C’mon, it’s ok,” I started, “Was a bit worried though, but, didn’t want to call ‘cus I didn’t want to look desperate. “ I said and winked at her.
“You are silly,” she said hitting my chest. “Anyways, I am here now, just gimme a min to freshen up let’s get the party started.”
“And if I give you a minute it’s gon be a minute?” I asked with a serious look.
“Hey!!” she screamed. “Ok gimme ten minutes, fifteen tops.”
“Ok counting already.” I said smiling as she turned to her door. I waited till she closed the door behind her before entering back inside to set the table.

Exactly twelve minutes later, she knocked again.
“You are late.” I threw at her holding the door open.
“And this will make up for it.” She replied holding up two bottles of Carlo Rosse red wine.
“Wow!!” I exclaimed surprised. “Now I think you came earlier than expected.” I said as we broke into a fist of laughter while I made way for her to walk in.
“You are seriously not serious.” she said walking past me. “And what’s with this aroma?” she asked tilting her nose.

Placing the drinks on the table, she opened the big plate containing the jellof rice and inhaled deeply.
“Please let’s eat already.” She said calmly with a serious countenance sinking into the couch as I busted out laughing. Walking around the table, I took a plate and dished a portion out.
“Should I add more?” I asked showing her the quantity.
“Seriously?” she started with a straight face. “Please add more jare, enough ko.” I laughed and added more before handing it over. “Here you go.” I said placing it before her. She barely waited for me to dish out mine before she pounced on hers.
“Hey! Wait let’s say the grace.” I shouted amused.
“I already said mine in my heart, thank you.” She replied through mouth full.

We ate while I teased her half of the time.

Though the quilt and shame of the last event in her room still hung on my mind but I did well not to show it. On her part, it seemed not to have happened as she didn’t portray any act as regards it. I was taken by her free spiritedness. Some girls in her shoes wouldn’t blink an eye towards me not to talk of having anything to do with me but here was Tolu bare with no pretence. Though I never seized to wonder why she pulled that act in her place but since after that faithful day, I had lots of questions left unanswered in my mind.

After the meal, I cleared the dished and got two glass cups. After I uncorked one of the bottles, I told her to make a toast which she did to a better and more prosperous future before we started sipping from our cups.
“So funny how things work,” I started. “We never even got properly introduced.”
“Properly introduced?” she asked crossing her legs on the couch sitting on them smile touching the corners of her lips.
“Yea, I mean, apart from knowing that you are Tolu and where you work, and my neighbor, I don’t know nothing anymore about you.” I said sipping from my cup.
“And apart from your name and being my neighbor, I don’t know anything more about you either,” she mimicked. “Oh and a great cook too.” She concluded with a wink.
“You want to make jokes with me abi?” I asked with a faked stern expression.
“Oh! Please,” she waved her hand. “Who makes a joke with a good cook except she wants to go on hunger strike.” She replied laughing.
“Just get ready to go on hunger strike then.” I fired laughing.
“Pleas na.” she pleaded making a puppy face.

I couldn’t hold back the laughter as I laughed hard spilling some contents from my cup.
“Yes na, make I beg before you go come mean am ‘cuz I go like carry this jellof rice go work tomorrow o, if you have little to spare anyways.”
“Then you are going to drop me your lunch money.” I teased.
“With all pleasure.” She said smiling.
“So tell me,” I started. “Who is Tolu?”
Though it seemed things has gone a bit far from ‘who is and who is not’ between us.

But, I still wanted to know a bit more about her.
“Huh! You don’t know who that girl is?” she started before I interrupted her.
“C’mon Tolu, I’m serious, not joking.”
“Ok, Ok,” she started making a serious face.

Changing her tune, “my name is Tolu.”
“Oya stop,” I started cutting her short. “I don’t want to know again.” I said refilling my cup. She pushed out her cup also, “Pour for yourself.” I fired sitting back. She busted out laughing which started getting me a bit irritated.
“He don vex o,” she teased refilling her cup.
“Vex for wetin na,” I defended. I didn’t want to be her object of amusement.
“Ok,” she started, “This is Tolu, from a family of five, Mum, Dad and three girls. I’m the second. No need to tell you that I’m Yoruba na.” she concluded. “So your turn.”
“Wait! Is that an intro? You gats be kidding me.” I scoffed.
“Of course that’s an intro, any other thing you want to know you are gon ask which I don’t guarantee you a sincere answer, but before that, it’s your turn.” She said with smiles.
“Hmmm!!” I sighed, “well like you know……….”
“I don’t know anything mister.” She said cutting through my words.
“Wait na,” I retorted. “Toby by name, just like you, from a family of five, Dad, Mum, two girls and one guy sitting right here. Do you I need to tell you that I’m ibo?” I asked with a smile.
“Hey!” she screamed. “Omo ibo? Na e be say you go like money well well.” She teased.
“Omo Yoruba I know say you go hate money wella.” I retorted.

She wanted to start with ‘why igbo people like money story’ when I waved it off.
“I don’t mean to pry but maybe you can tell me more about yourself or family, anything.” I said skeptically.
“Nothing to tell, believe me,” she retorted defensively.
“Ok, if you say so.” I dropped in resignation.
“You mind if we play a little game?” she asked placing her empty cup on the table.
“Which is?” I asked standing to refill her cup but she declined.
“You know about truth or dare? Ok this is would have been it, but, the dare is out.” she repeated her beautiful eyes focused on me.
“Ok?”
“Ok so are you game?”
“Yea, bring it on.”
“It’s going to be just for two questions,” she started, “And I will lead.” She explained.
“Ok.”
“That day, the first time we met that I knocked on your door, you were the one crying against the television story you told me?” she asked with her eyes focused on me. “Tell it all and tell it true.”
“Hmmm!!” I heaved letting out a sigh.”Someone just quoted from the GAME OF THRONES” I said looking at her. That was the least question I expected her to ask. I’d thought she was going to ask something relating to what happened at her place or go a bit more personal. “Yea, I was the one crying.”
“Why? What happened? She asked her eyes suddenly turning misty.
“That’s your second question you know?” I said without making it sound like a question.
“Yes, I do.” She replied.
“Ok, that day might pass as the worst day of my life,” I started.

She couldn’t hold herself by the time I was done narrating what happened to me.

I couldn’t help it either as recounting the experience made it sound funny. When we finally caught out breath, she looked at me compassionately without a word.
“Hey! Don’t give me that look, it’s in the past now or have you forgotten what we are celebrating?” I admonished. She nodded but the look didn’t change.

I checked the time and it was almost 11:30pm. “I know you will go to work tomorrow so why don’t we call it in.” I suggested as our eyes met and lingered.
“But you haven’t asked your questions yet.” She said waving of my suggestion.
“I don’t know what to ask you, I’d prefer you tell what you want me to know.” I said with a shrug.
“Then I guess I didn’t cheat you in the game.” She said standing from the couch with a smile. “Time to call it in then.”
“What about this?” I asked pointing to the untouched bottle.
“Keep it for Friday.” She said walking toward the door. “And thanks for the food.”
“The pleasure is all mine and thanks for making this evening worth it.” I replied.

I walked her to the door ogling her s*xy** body as a tent started forming on my shorts. As we said the goodnights at the door, I tried keeping my eyes of her b0s0m which juggled at every movement she made with some youthful arrogance and pride. I know she caught me more than twice lost in her abundance but she never did like.

While we stood outside without words staring into each other’s eyes, I contemplated on what to say. I didn’t know if she expected that I say something, but deep down, I longed for her. My erection was clearly visible to her view but she kept mute holding my gaze.
“I guess it’s goodnight then,” she finally said breaking the silence talking two steps to her door.
“Ummm!! Yea, it’s goodnight and thanks once again.” I said shifting uncomfortably.

As she turned to unlock her door, the words escaped my mouth before I could hold them back, “Are you going to use that stuff tonight?”

She turned and looked at me with a strange look and perfect comportment. She must have understood what I meant by ‘that stuff’. “I don’t know, it depends on you.” She replied unruffled with a shrug.

Taking few steps towards her, I stretched out my hand without words waiting on her. Pulling her key out from the key hole, she skeptically placed her hand on mine, her eyes locked into mine. I led her back into my room and secured the door after her. Holding her two hands as we stood on the walk way eyes buried deep into each other, I bent down and placed my lips down to her. A s£nsat!on simmered through my lips down into my being as she parted her lips welcoming mine.
