I met my uncle ready for work, his daughter was in her school uniform ready for school too. I guess I was the one delaying them.

” sir you called me ”

” yes i do ” he paused for a moment before he continue


” Ekundayo to succeed in Lagos call for the survival of the fittest . I and my wife have another better option for you. Although it may not augur well with you but that is the best for you now ”

I was confused with what my uncle is saying i could Not get a single thing from his word. But i noticed his wife was smiling where she stands

“Ekundayo today you will stay at home but as from tomorrow you will be Hawking soft drinks so that we can gather enough money for your waec ” that is the only worst i want to hear i was shocked

” hawking me? God forbid ” total confusion was written all over my face .i feel like crying At that moment.
Moreso i need someone to explain something to me.

” Ekundayo i know you are shocked ” my uncle wife said coming closer to me this time,


” but we are only trying to help you ”

” help me how ” i asked my Self

” you see life in Lagos is Not that easy but you have to wear your trousers very well to survive. Don’t panic over a little things, the truth is that you will write your waec. To admit student here is very easy, not only that every money you make, i will be saving it for you tertiary education” she added.

I was bit relieved with what she said but not yet convinced

” Dayo my wife have said it all, you should be thankful to her, because everything was her idea ”

So she was the one who cooked the whole idea


” just make sure you deliver the money to her so that she can help you save it. Definitely next month you will go back to school i promise you that ” now i was finally relieved that is what i want to hear. I believe my uncle and his wife notwithstanding they are trying to help me


” thank you sir and ma i promise to do my best and deliver the money ”

” that is a good boy, you are a true son of your father just behave well see you in the evening ”

“yes sir”


I resume back to my room after my uncle has left, but my uncle wife called me few minutes later


” in as much you are not doing anything for today go and take a cutlass in the store and clean the bushy area at the backyard you hear ” she said evilly

“Yes ma” as a good boy i quickly dashed to the store to get the cutlass before heading to the backyard.
