Where There’s Fire

Levi waited until the healer had left the room, nodding distracted as the kind young man offered him some words of reassurance.

Walking over to the small bed, the only one in the room, Levi sat down heavily on a wooden chair. Although the sight of Beautiful Laura lying unmoving and pale on a pure white bed was simply gut-wrenching, he couldn’t take his eyes off her.

Levi suppressed a feeling of rage toward the…b---h who did this to his Laura.

Pushing his anger aside, Levi lifted a hand to remove his glove. He then reached forward, to touch Laura’s cheek.

There was a graze there that he just didn’t like.

“Awakening Flame”, he said lowly, his eyes drifting close as a warm s£nsat!on appeared at the very top of his head before flowng down his arm, to his hand that was so gently caressing Laura’s face.

Suddenly Laura’s eyes fluttered open as she leaned into Levi’s hand, offering him a tried smile. “L-Levi?” her voice was rough and coarse, her throat dry. “S…since when do you know how to heal?”

“Please”, Levi snorted as he moved forward, gently placing an arm around Laura’s shoulder to pull her into a sitting position. “A reckless idiot like me has to learn a thing or two very quickly”.

Laura hissed loudly, her body giving silent protesting to her moving. But she sighed softly when Levi held her, cradling her against his strong chest. “Thank you, Levi”, she felt safe here, wrapped up in Levi’s arms. A place she could easily fall asleep.

But she couldn’t……

“Where’s Lady Kate?”

“That Loki guy is with her”, Levi immediately replied. “He ordered me to look after you”.

“I…see”, Laura murmured, her body tensing with a sense of fear. Princess Kira was truly dangerous. She has the Dark Fire Magic in her. Loki wouldn’t match her. What if she overwhelmed them both?

“I am glad he did”, Levi spoke, pulling Laura out of her musings. “I know it’s my duty to protect Lady Kate, but I wouldn’t have been able to concentrate properly because you were injured”.

“Levi, I’m sorry, she caught me by surprise”.

“Easy, I know”, Levi immediately said.

“Levi, I know who killed those villagers”.

Levi tensed for a moment, surprised by Laura’s suddenly admission. “What?”
“It was Princess Kira”, Laura told him, her hands gripping tightly at the green sash that rested over Levi’s shoulder. “She did. She admitted it”.

“She’s the one who is using Dark Fire Magic”. The anger in Levi’s voice was clear and blatant.

“Yes”, Laura whispered, a tear escaping to slip down her cheek. “She…said it so casually, as if their lives meant nothing. Levi what do we do? I can’t follow a Princess who kills her own people”.

“I know”, Levi immediately replied as he ran a hand through Laura’s hair. “I can’t either”.

Well, he hadn’t expected the one using Dark Fire Magic so recklessly would be his own Princess.

“We’ll find something”, Levi muttered under his breath as he held Laura closer to him. “There has to be something we can do”.

“Laura!”
Suddenly, a familiar voice was heard starling both Laura and Levi. Immediately, they both looked toward the door way to see Kate standing on the threshold, alive and unscathed. Utter relief washed over the three of them.

“Laura, I’m so glad you’re alright”, Kate said as she quickly entered the room, pratically jogging over to the bed. Kate did something that was rather uncharacteristic of her; she threw her arms around Laura in a hug, the relief on Kate’s face was obvious.
