FIFA set to Announce 28-man Ballon d'Or Shortlist

World football governing body, FIFA, has announced the date for the unveiling of the 2014 nominees for the annual award ‘Ballon d’Or.

With Barcelona forward Lionel Messi and Real Madrid believed as the top contenders after winning the award four and two times respectively, world’s leading players will be able to confirm if they make the 23 man nominees list on Tuesday, October 28, 2014.

A statement from FIFA released on Thursday, October 9, 2014, reads:

‘A 23-man shortlist for the Ballon d’Or will be compiled by the Fifa Football Committee and a group of experts from France Football’

‘It will be announced on October 28.’

‘The winners of all of the awards will be revealed at the Fifa Ballon d’Or gala as part of a televised show at the Zurich Kongresshaus on January 12, 2015’

Argentine player, Lionel Messi is the only player in World that has won the award four times in a row.
