Juventus Set to Pay Manchester United £850,000 as Solidarity Payment for Cristiano Ronaldo

​​Manchester United are set to receive £850,000 from ​Juventus thanks to them signing Cristiano Ronaldo for £99m from ​Real Madrid in 2018.

Juventus's accounts for the 2018-19 season revealed United are due €1.2m from the Serie A champions and sources told the ​Manchester Evening News it is the 'second instalment of a solidarity payment' following Ronaldo's £88m switch to Juve from Real Madrid last year.


The term 'Solidarity payments' were introduced by Fifa in 2001 and framed as compensation for clubs who helped to develop a player between the ages of 12 and 23. This, United will bank around £2.2m from Ronaldo's move to Juventus.



Ronaldo came to Old Trafford for £12.24m at the age of 18 in 2003 from Sporting Lisbon and was sold for a then-world record £80m to Real Madrid in 2009 before ​he joined Juventus.

Furthermore, Juventus’ financial records were recently published, and the one-off payment to United was listed, though it is unknown how much they have paid in the past.

He made 292 appearances for United and smashed 118 goals across six seasons, winning three Premier League titles, the FA Cup, the League Cup, the Champions League and the Club World Cup.



The 34-year-old won his first Ballon d'Or gong as a United player in 2008 and also won the PFA Players' Player of the Year two years running in 2007 and 2008.
