More than a year ago, Phyno signed three artistes (Nuno, Rhatti and Superboy Cheque) to his record label ‘Penthouse Music’. The joy was loud in the east. I remember hanging out with friends and we all praised Phyno for helping our guys, and giving them opportunities to shine.
Fast-forward to 2020, Phyno is yet to invest a dime on these young talents. No single, no collaborations, nothing! This has caused a severe issue in the east. This might be one of the reasons Phyno’s “Deal With It” album received little or no hype from south easterners. On hanging out with a friend today, I could feel the disappointment in his voice when he asked what Phyno’s plan is with Nuno, Rhatti and Cheque.
“How can an independent artiste like Oxlade be progressing and artiste’s signed to the label of the most popular Igbo indigenous rapper are nowhere to be found”, My friend asked.
“Despite how Olamide was criticized and abused for his deal with Yomi Blaze and Picazo Rhap, he (Olamide) still managed to give them fame with the YBNL Mafia Family project. The 14-track compilation album was a foundation for these artistes especially Fireboy DML. In fact I never knew Fireboy DML until after I listened to his track ‘I’ll be Fine” off the album”, he added.
This was an eye opener to me. I felt his pain and understood where my friend was driving at. He was simply questioning the authenticity of Nuno, Rhatti and Cheque’s deal with Penthouse and what Phyno’s plans are towards their career.
It is indeed painful to be signed to a record label everyone believes has the funds and capacity to better your career but yet seems signing to the label was bad.
What Do You Think Happened to Rhatti, Cheque and Nuno Signed by Phyno? Is their Deal with Penthouse fake?
