Wale - Groundhog Day (J. Cole Response)

Wale - Groundhog Day (J. Cole Response)
Last week, J. Cole aired his grievances with a handful of rappers— seemingly including Kanye—on a new song called “False Prophets.” The second verse, which alludes to a rapper “so bitter he can't see his own blessings,” was rumoredto address Wale.
Now, that seems confirmed: Wale responded to Cole yesterday with a new track called “Groundhog Day,” as the Fader points out. Listen below. In it, Wale says he’s “heavily flawed but far from a false prophet.” He goes on to discuss an ongoing struggle with anxiety, depression, and painkiller misuse. “I remember me and Cole would open for Hov,” he then raps. “Everyday a star is born, I guess I died in the womb.” His verse ends, “I love my brother though/That’s why it’s rest in peace to Tommy/We still bumping Cole”; in the outro, he concludes, “I'll see you at the game, bro.”
That night, the pair sat together at the North Carolina State basketball game against Boston University. See the pair’s video from the game below.
