Bronx stand up!!! This one’s for y’all
Lighters Up is a hip hop song by American rapper Lil’ Kim, taken from her 2005 fourth studio album The Naked Truth.
She wrote it with Sean Monty and Derek Miller. Who better to helm the production other than prolific hit maker and her ex-boyfriend, Scott Storch.
After being put out as the first single from the album on August 31, 2005, the song was well received by music critics though many likened its tone to Damian Marley’s Welcome to Jamrock.
It went ahead to reach the top ten on both the Billboard Rap Songs chart and Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, but peaked at Number 31 on the Hot 100. In the UK, it was Number 8 on the Singles chart, reaching the Number 4 spot in Finland.
In addition, MTV voted Lighters Up the best Brooklyn anthem in 2013. That’s something huh?
Enjoy the tune.
