Hey Lover is an R&B/hip hop song by American rapper LL Cool J which is the first single released from his 1996 sixth studio album, Mr. Smith. The Grammy Award winning song features vocal group Boyz II Men.
The song, produced by the Trackmasters and written by LL Cool J and Rod Temperton, was released through Def Jam Recordings on October 31, 1995.
Hey Lover went on become the most successful single from the album, reaching number three (3) on the US Billboard Hot 100, Hot Dance Music/Maxi-Singles Sales and Hot R&B Singles charts. It also reached number one (1) on the US Billboard Hot Rap Singles.
The song won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Solo Performance at the 1997 Grammy Awards and was eventually certified platinum in the US by the RIAA for selling more than 900,000 copies.
