Whitney Houston - I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me)
I Wanna Dance with Somebody (Who Loves Me) is a dance pop song by American singer Whitney Houston, from her 1987 second studio album, Whitney.
Boy Meets Girl band members Shannon Rubicam and George Merrill wrote the song while Narada Michael Walden did the production.
The song was released as a single on May 2, 1986, and received mixed reviews from critics, many of who compared its music to American singer Cyndi Lauper‘s Girls Just Want to Have Fun.
Nonetheless, the single peaked at Number 1 in the US, UK, Canada, Australia and 12 other countries.
In addition, it won the Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance at the 30th Grammy Awards.
Tidbit: This song was Whitney’s biggest hit in the US after its release, until it was dethroned by her version of I Will Always Love You in 1992.
