Fireflies is a synth-pop song which is the debut single recorded by American electronica project Owl City‘s second album Ocean Eyes (2009). American rock band Relient K’s vocalist Matt Thiessen is featured as a guest vocalist on the song.
The insomnia-themed song was released digitally on July 14, 2009 and topped both the US Billboard Hot 100 and UK Singles chart. it also topped charts in Germany, Australia, Netherlands, Ireland and Denmark.
Fireflies was Owl City‘s only top forty hit in the United States until three years later when Good Time, a duet with Canadian singer Carly Rae Jepsen, charted at number eight. The single has been certified 7x platinum in the US, 6x platinum in Australia and 2x platinum in Sweden.
