How we recaptured Mubi – Hunter

Relief came the way of citizen of Adamawa State yesterday following the recapturing of Mubi, the commercial nerve centre of the state and surrounding villages, which were overrun two weeks ago by the Boko Haram Islamist sect.

A hunter who narrated how the feat was accomplished claimed in an interview withDaily Sunthat even the sect’s kingpin, Abubakar Shekau was killed during the encounter.

The town, it was gathered, was recaptured following the effort of Joint Civilian JTF and hunters drawn from across the state, who also seized six Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) earlier taken away by the insurgents.

The insurgents had for the past four months been launching onslaughts on the Adamawa North Senatorial District, comprising of five local government of Madagali, MIchika, Mubi North Mubi South and Maiha, and displaced thousands of residents.

The hunter said flags of Boko Haram earlier hoisted were uprooted and replaced with the Nigerian flag by the military personnel, including the one hoisted at the palace of the Emir of Mubi.

Sources at the palace indicated that the palace which before yesterday was converted to the spiritual headquarters of the insurgents was taken over by the joint team.

The hunter added that sequel to the development, the Boko Haram beat a retreat into the bush as hunters killed many of them.
Governor Bala James Ngillari confirmed the good news, saying that ‘the insurgents have been flushed out of Mubi and are on the run”.

According to him, the feats recorded in the fight against the insurgents were the work of God: “God is in this business of security in Adamawa State. In the last week or so, the government has decided to be working with the vigilante group Yan Baka local hunters and civilian JTF, they have been working hand in hand with the military and the police”.
