Story: Mistakes of my mother - S01 E04

..She started whimpering with fright when they finally ran up to her.

Ahunli: “Please don’t hurt me. Please spare my life, I will give you whatever you want” she thought of how they were about to thwart her well laid out plan and began to beg even more desperately until the guys burst out into uncontrollable laughter. “What is so funny?” she asked despite herself and scanned the faces of the guys properly. One of them had begun to remove his cap. She stood up when she saw his face properly at last and lunged at him, fuming.

Olamide: “Easy babe. You might fall down again at this rate. Hope you did not hurt your ankle?” he bent down to inspect her legs when it looked like she was limping.

Ahunli: “Get your filthy hands off me you pretentious bastard. What exactly were you doing chasing after me like that? And you too Nonso, is it fair?” she bent down to inspect her toe which seemed to have been cut and bleeding.

Nonso: “Don’t be angry dear. We were just playing pranks on you. But hope you know how risky it is movin garound at night like this? It could have been some other guys and what would you have done in that instance?”

Olamide: “She would have gone on her knees to beg of course. Please don’t hurt me, I will give you anything youwant” he said mimicking her.

Ahunli: “Thanks Nonso” she ignored the object of her affection, she was still shaken but who wouldn’t be?”

Nonso: “It is fine. We are sorry too, it was a lame joke. Will get going now and get that leg treated” he said, casta glance at her legs and walked away waving a goodbye at them.

Olamide: “Thanks guy!” he shouted after his retreating figure before turning back to her. “I guess it’s my house you are headed to?”

Ahunli: “Uhnuhn…I am headed to a mad man’s house for sure” she said and started walking towards the direction of his estate again. He did not utter a word to her anymore, neither did he try to lend her a helping hand seeing the way she was walking with difficulty. He just walked behind her, probably wondering if he would be able to do the stuffs they did on a daily bases that night with her injured leg.

When they got to the house, she dropped her bag and went straight for the bathroom, there, she had her bathe, cleaned the wound with the methylated spirit she saw in the bathroom and bandaged it. He seemed to be a big fan of first aid stuffs. Nothing was lacking in the box. She came out feeling refreshed and happier, knowing that nothing was getting in the way of her goals for that night. She wore the sexy nightie she brought along and joined him on the bed.

Ahunli: “You can’t even say sorry to me despite the fact that it was you who caused it all?”

Olamide: “Sorrry” he said curtly.

Ahunli: “Just like that? Well you didn’t have to say it when it wasn’t coming from your heart” she queried, a frown creasing her brow.

Olamide: “Okay now. Do you want to sleep or what?”

Ahunli: “Let’s play a game” she said, her eyes filled with excitement, the frown had long disappeared.

Olamide: “What game? You think you are still a child?”

Ahunli: “Well I just wanna play at least one game with you. Can’t we even do that?”

Olamide: “Okay!”

Ahunli: “It is a truth or dare game. If you refuse to do anything I ask you to do, you will down a bottle of beer. Same applies to me. So choose which you want, truth or dare?” she said excitedly like a kid who just won a trophyas the best athlete in a marathon.

Olamide: “Uhn! Sounds interesting, as long as drinking isthe penalty then we are cool. Where are the bottles?”She quickly ran off to the kitchen to check if there were chilled ones in the freezer. She wasn’t disappointed. She returned with five bottles of big stout.

Ahunli: “Okay truth or dare?”

Olamide: “Dare”

Ahunli: “I dare you to drink one bottle without stopping”she said giggling from ear to ear.

Olamide: “You call that a dare?” he scoffed, opened one bottle and downed its content without as much as a grunt. “Truth or dare?” he queried when he was done.

Ahunli: “Truth” she replied in a small voice, the excitement had been replaced with uncertainty.

Olamide: “Okay what is your name?”

Ahunli: “What? You call that a question? Nonsense guy” she said hitting his arm

Olamide: “Just answer jare”

Ahunli: “Ahunli! So truth or dare?”

Olamide: “Dare”

Ahunli: “Can’t you ask for truth? Whatever! I dare you to tell me you love me”

Olamide: “Is that a dare? Well I can’t tell you that” he said coolly, without as much as an emotion on his face.

Ahunli: “Good then, take another beer” she replied disappointedly even though she already knew he wasn’t going to say it.

They kept at this until he became quite tipsy and obviously high on adrenaline. He pulled her close and started fiddling with her nightie. She stopped him, reached for the condom she already had handy and handed it to him. He without a second thought tore it open and whoosh, the deed was done. She slept like a baby that night after praying it would work knowing that if it didn’t, she would have to wait for another month before she would have to give it a try again. She was so desperate to have me (her leverage) so she could have her man all to herself.

===Two months later, she started feeling sluggish and dizzyfor no apparent reason. Her energy level was like 20%. She knew without doubt that she was due for a pregnancy test and went for the best available option. She did a home pregnancy test and to her elation, it showed two red lines. She jumped for joy, knelt down thanking God for her blessing. She could not believe she was carrying his child at last. She reached for her bare tummy and caressed it fondly muttering to me as if I could understand what she was talking about. She quickly dialled his number and he picked up on the third ring; in her normal way, she asked him if she could go bythe house that night and he agreed after much haranguing.

She did not bother waiting for him to get home, she got there earlier than she used to and had to wait for him at the gate. He was surprised when he saw her at the gate and wondered what was raging in her mind at that moment. From the look on his face, he must have knownshe had something pushing her towards ecstasy and was curious to know what it was or so she thought. He opened the gate since they had no gateman and drove in…

Ahunli: “Welcome back dear. How was work today?” she said when he alighted from his car and headed for his front door.

Olamide: “It was stressful but I thank God and yours?”

Ahunli: “I am on leave na. How many times will I tell you?”

Olamide: “Do you think that is what I use my head to think of? I have my job and lots of other stuffs to think about not your job” he said as he stepped into the sitting room since the door led directly to the sitting room. He dropped on the chair by his right hand side and started removing his shoes.

Ahunli: “Let me remove it for you” she said and bent down to help him remove the shoe but he wouldn’t have any of that.

Olamide: “No thank you. I can remove it by myself. So why couldn’t you wait before rushing down here knowingthe time I come back? What if I had decided to hang out with the guys today leaving you to wait out there all by yourself?” he asked, becoming agitated.

Ahunli: “Well I already know you wouldn’t do a thing like that. You are a gentleman na and besides you wouldn’t do a thing like that to a woman carrying your baby ” she thought and smiled to herself.

Olamide: “Why are you smiling?”he queried, arching his brow in puzzlement.

Ahunli: “There is something I need to tell you but I don’t know how you will take it. Should I go ahead?” she asked, acting as innocent and fragile as she could.

Olamide: “Of course! Go ahead but you can still keep it to yourself if you want to” She knew he didn’t mean that.

Ahunli: “I am pregnant” she dropped the bombshell, and waited for his reaction, but it did not come.

Olamide: “Oh! Congratulations o. I am happy for you but why are you telling me? You should go sort it out with the father of the baby” he said and stood up to go drop his shoes inside.

Ahunli: “The baby belongs to you. At least you are the only one I’ve been having sex with since I came to this city” she said standing up after him.

Olamide: “That can never be possible” he said with conviction.

Ahunli: “Why not?”

Olamide: “Because I have never had sex with you without condoms.

Even when I am as drunk as the drunken master, I still use condom. So get that thought out of your head and go look for the father of the innocent child” he thundered.Ahunli: “Please don’t do this to me Olami” she started toweep when she realised her folly.

Olamide: “What do you mean by that? Are you going out of your mind? You got pregnant for another man and now you want to make me responsible for it? Are you f-----g crazy?” he yelled.

Ahunli: “You know condoms are not reliable. They can break or something” she ventured.

Olamide: “Oh hold it right there. I don’t use cheap ones and they have never broken before. I know what I am talking about. If you are done with you allegations, you can find your way out right? I hope you wouldn’t make me push you out?”he said pointing to the door.

Ahunli: “Oh my God! No, no, no please don’t do this please” she started wailing in earnest when it dawned on her that he meant what he was saying. She sat down in the sitting room while he went to freshen up. She heard the tap running and wondered if he would really throw her out.

The thought of getting thrown out broke her heart to shreds and at that moment she thought she felt blood drip from her eyes in form of tears. “Should I tell him the truth about that night? How I became pregnant? Wouldn’t it make things even worse? ” she pondered on and on until she heard the bathroom door open. She shot to her feet, as she waited for heaven to fall…To be continued!.

Hmmmmmm sorry to say this o, but most ladies seems to be very dumb and stupid when it comes to issues of the heart….You will now virtually that a guy doesn’t genuinely love you, and you will keep pushing it… Giving yourself useless hope and making stupid excuses for him…If he doesn’t love you, he doesn’t .. stop being the one always fighting for the relationship! Use your head! read the signs!

Trust me, if a guy really loves you, you will know, because the signs will be there…Stop giving yourself hope that he will change one day! No dey carry relationship for head like GNS course.. He is not doing you a favour being in that relationship biko…Know when to call it “Quit”I can go on and on, but make i stop here..I don’t know who needs to hear this, but i know someonereally need to hear it..Just a little advice from #SIR_VIC...

QUESTIONS: Will she tell him the truth? Do you think telling him the truth will make him accept me?

...He eyed her with a warning look on his face and stepped into his room which adjoined to his study room, kitchen, bathroom and even the sitting room. She followed him with calculating steps.

Olamide: “What is it now? What did I tell you before I went to have my bathe?”

Ahunli: “Well there is something I need to tell you. I knowI did wrong and I am sorry”Olamide: “I guess you are about to confess to my not being your baby papa?” he said fingering through his closet to find something befitting to wear for the hot evening.

Ahunli: “That is not it. I want to tell you how it happened that you are the father of my baby” she said sadly, I could feel her sadness seeping through the placenta to nag at my green mind. I recoiled and closed my already shut eyes. I was sad too.

Olamide: “Okay, I’d be more than glad to hear your theory but make sure it is convincing enough” he said ashe squeezed himself into the sport shorts that had Chelsea logo at its side.

Ahunli: “That night when we did the truth or dare game and you got tipsy. I gave you a condom that had a hole in it already” she looked down unable to meet his bewildered gaze.

Olamide: “What do you mean by that? You intentionally did that? How dare you impose your treacherous will on me? Did you even care about the baby? Did you think it would make me marry you? You dumb ass lady”

Ahunli: “I am sorry. I just didn’t know what to do. You kept dodging any talk of us getting into a relationship proper…”

Olamide: “And you decided to use this crooked means totrap me down? I told you I didn’t want a baby just yet didn’t I?”

Ahunli: “Yes you did”

Olamide: “Even now, I still don’t want a baby. So you can keep the baby all to yourself or have an abortion. Do whatever you want it. Now that I am done talking, you may take your leave”

Ahunli: “Hmmmmm. I cannot have an abortion”

Olamide: “That is your call to make so you don’t need to tell me. I don’t want that baby” he yelled and I cringed in the womb as minute as I was, I could feel their words to the pore of my tiny soul. It struck like electrifying waves in my beating heart.

Ahunli: “Please! Please don’t do this” she began to pleadeven yet again and I wanted to kick her from my abode to just shut up and get us out of the house. Why did she have to beg a man to accept a responsibility she imposed on him? He said nothing, reached for a shirt in the closet and wore it. Made to leave the house but she jumped in front of him.

OLamide: “What now? Since you have refused to leave, I will leave for you” he pushed her aside but she jumped back to her initial position jostling me up and down.

Ahunli: “Don’t worry, I will leave” she said, stepped aside, picked up her bag from where it laid and walked out sadly leaving his rooted on the spot. He stared at her retreating figure and shook his head.

She hadn’t had been as distraught as she was that night in her life. She needed someone to talk to, she needed someone to tell her it was going to be okay, she could not think of any other person except Alexis.

She boarded okada which dropped her directly in front of Alexis’ apartment which was some stone throw from express where she normally dropped at. She didn’t trust herself to trek that night as she suspected she could pass out like a drunk on the road. The pregnancy hormones and everything worked together to mush up her emotions.

Alexis was surprised to see her friend at her place by that time knowing where she was supposed to be instead. What baffled her the most was the look on her face and the tears streaks criss-crossing her beautiful face. She fell into her arms and wept her eyes out immediately she had opened the door. I could taste her tears from the womb. Her world started becoming scarier to me by the minute I wondered if I really wanted out of my haven at that moment. What hurt me the mostwas the hunger I felt, rather than feed me with something delectable, she was feeding me with her tears and broken heart?

Alexis: “What happened babe? Why are you this way?” she asked after drawing her in and making her sit down forcibly.

Ahunli: “I am ruined. I have used my own hands to ruin my own life; intentionally, stupidly, naively, foolishly” shesnivelled while I hiccupped.

Alexis: “Talk to me, what happened? I have a feeling this is about Olamide?” she grimaced at the sound of his name in her ears.

Ahunli: “It is about him yeah but I did this to myself, it’s I who authored and co-authored this all by myself and now I am ruined” she covered her face with her hands weeping loudly into them.

Alexis: “What did you do?” she held her by the shoulder trying to make her lift her face up and she did.

Ahunli: “I am pregnant”

Alexis: “What? You are what? Oh my goodness gracious God! And you say you ruined your own life. You two ruined it together of course. Why are you trying to put him in good light?”

Ahunli: “I made him do it. He wasn’t even aware”

Alexis: “How is that possible?”

Ahunli: “I cunningly got him drunk and put holes on the condom”

Alexis: “Jeeesus!” she jumped to her feet looking down at her friend with fury. “You did what? Can you come again please?”

Ahunli: “Yea I did that. I did it…yes I did” she gibbered.

Alexis: “I warned you this girl. I warned you. How could you have been that desperate? How could you have goneto that extent to win a man over? Besides this not even winning a man over, this is entrapping him. You acted despicably you know that?” she sat down back beside her friend.

Ahunli: “Yes I did and that’s why I am in this mess right now. What do I do?”

Alexis: “Now you are asking me what to do? Remember Itold you what to do once and you discarded it as a foolish idea? I don’t even know what you should do if I’m to be sincere with you. I am more confused than you are right now” even I was confused. I started fretting I might be flushed out or dumped in the bin later on since I was just a means to an end- a leverage.

Alexis: “Besides what did he say about it all?”

Ahunli: “He was furious, he said I should do whatever I want with it since he isn’t taking responsibility for it. He almost threw me out”

Alexis: “For once I support him. How could you have done something like that to him? I would have acted the way he did if I were in his shoes too so I cannot blame the dude right now. All I can think of is you going back tobeg him but I doubt he will accept since he fears commitment more than death itself. You really didn’t do well o”

Ahunli: “Yes I know I did not and I am paying for my sins right now. I pity the baby. I don’t even want to think of what its fate might be. My parents will not accept such an abomination”My precious! I think I became an abomination rather than a bundle of joy. Already getting rejected when I wasn’t even out of the womb yet. I told you my life was twisted, can you see what I meant now? I was just a foetus who didn’t have to go through such a treatment inthe hands of my own parents but this is just the beginning though.

Alexis: “Hope you aren’t thinking of abortion though?”

Ahunli: “I don’t even know what I am thinking right now. Iam lost”

Alexis: “It’s gonna be fine don’t worry. Just don’t do anything stupid anymore”She left the next morning as early as the second c--k crow when she realised Alexis had no solution to her problem. She did not blame her for her outbursts though since she had warned her about the whole ghost affair on several occasions. She decided to walk home rather than take bike like she used to so as to clear her head and decide on what to do with me.

===Let’s do a little mind play by guessing what my dad must have been doing after she left. He must have sat down with his head in his hands, thinking of what to do. Having mixed feelings and cursing at her for making himgo through such. He must have called her dumb, stupid, selfish, thoughtless, naïve, crazy and even more of such names. He must have called his friend Nonso to tell him the latest development and who knows? That one must have advised him to run for dear life and act like he isn’t even aware she existed.

You know guys, they will alwayshave one another’s backs in this kind of situation especially when they are birds of the same feather.

===Back to her: as she walked back home that morning by the express with drooping shoulders and a veil wrapped around her head and shoulders like Muslim ladies cars zoomed past her with most of their occupants trying to reach their destinations as early as they had planned before other road users joined in the mad race thereby constituting to traffic jam.

A familiar car raced past her but suddenly stopped and waited for her to reach it. As she got to the car, the driver got down from the car probably as a sign of respect by not talking to her from inside the car.

Francis: “Hey hols girl!” he beamed with smile but it soon faded when he saw her face. Swollen like one who wept all through the night? “Hey what’s wrong with you? Hop into the car, I will drive you home” he said turning back to the driver’s side and got in. she hesitated for a while and hopped in with him. He winded up the glass and ignited the car.

Francis: “So why are you walking all alone on the express road so early in the morning? You are supposed to be at home sleeping since you are on leave” he cast her a side look taking in her expressions.

Ahunli: “I was at Alexis’ place. Just decided to walk rather than take bike” she replied.

Francis: “I still feel something is going on with you. Whatis it? You know you can tell me anything right? I have loved you since your first day at the office and I keep dreaming of us having sometime together like this but not with you looking the way you are looking”

Ahunli: “Yeah I know you like me and I will tell you point blank. I am pregnant for a guy who has rejected the pregnancy. So can you stop loving me now please?”

Francis: “Hmmmm are you? Good then. Being pregnant is a good thing. Still wouldn’t stop me from loving you if you would permit me” he said and my heart skipped beats in the womb. What is he thinking now?

To be continued!.

QUESTIONS: Guys, if you were in Olamide’s shoes, what would you have done? And ladies, will you go to that extent to ensure a man becomes yours?

Who among the guys willbecome my daddy though?
