“Listen to yourself Ola… you said I have your mother, but she isn’t mine?” Daniel barked loudly and I looked at him in dismay.

FEW DAYS LATER

LOCATION: ARMY BARRACK (LIEUTENANT COLONEL’S OFFICE)

KNOCK! KNOCK!!

“Come in.” The Lieutenant Colonel permitted.

“Sir!” Corporal Martins saluted respectfully.

“Martins, please sit down.” The Lieutenant Colonel offered and Corporal Martins sat down quietly.

“What can I do for you?” The Lieutenant Colonel asked without looking at puzzled Corporal Martins.

“Sir, concerning the audio tape I gave to you, you haven’t say anything concerning it.” Corporal Martins clarified.

“Audio tape? Oh! You mean the conversations of you and the boy in Comprehensive High School?” The Lieutenant Colonel summarized.

“Exactly sir…” Corporal Martins replied but unfinished.

“I’d play the audio but I don’t see any reason why you should involve yourself in the matter, Leo maybe a cultist, he maybe a murderer, he maybe a rapist but law doesn’t work that way. Law doesn’t work again the riches and those mingling with the rich. Law is respecter of people in power and the riches. Martins, please don’t prove stubborn this time, just be yourself and stop being nosy on other people’s affairs.” The Lieutenant Colonel elucidated. His respond left Corporal Martins mouth open in agape.

“Sir, this is my thirteenth years as a soldier and I’m just a corporal. Many of my kind that were recruited thirteen years ago are now Warrant Officers, Lieutenant Sergeants, Lieutenant Colonel even Colonel only the unlucky ones are still a Sergeant. I was denied of promotions that are meant for me just because I’d always being a loyal and honest soldier. I don’t take bribe like others. I’m not politician’s dog like many. I dislike and don’t stand for injustice and I am just the person of whom I am. The dignity of this profession is very dear to my heart and I have always tried my best to keep it, but despite all this what is my reward? Nothing rather conspiracy. It was written in the Nigeria Constitution that ‘law is no respecter of anybody’ I guess the constitution is now changed and the rule now state thus ‘law doesn’t work against the riches and those in power’…” Corporal Martins enunciated softly.

“Martins, what are you trying to insinuate?” The Lieutenant Colonel asked angrily.

“I’m really sorry sir, but I can’t stand for injustice anymore, you know the true yet you are running away from the truth.” Corporal Martins blasted softly.

“What nonsense! You dare talk to your senior like that. You’re fired!” The Lieutenant Colonel announced angrily.

“Nice one Sir, I have been expecting you to say this. I just want you to know that as long as you don’t repent and forsake all your evil deeds my dear boss it is just a matter of time…” Corporal Martins rebutted confidently but in parable.

“Sir, this is the property of the force, I’m handling it back to the force as I resign my appointment sir.” Corporal Martins concluded. He brought out his pistol from its pulse and he dropped it on the Lieutenant Colonel’s table, he further removed his beret and he placed it gently on the table. He saluted and left the office quietly.

“Idiot!” The Lieutenant Colonel sighed as he angrily sat on his chair.

LOCATION: COMPREHENSIVE HIGH SCHOOL (THE PRINCIPAL’S OFFICE)

“How is he now?” Mr. Chorus asked unhappily.

“He is responding to treatment but he is still unconscious.” Mr. Dave, the school gardener replied with eyes shook with tears.

“Oh! I’m so sorry for that and I pray he recover on time.” Mr. Chorus uttered as he rose on his feet.

“Sir, I found this on him before he was warded in the hospital.” Mr. Dave uttered and he brought out a memory card from his pocket.

“Memory card? What is on it?” Mr. Chorus asked as he collected the SD card from Mr. Dave.

“There is a recorded video on it… the video shows the rape incident that happened recently in the school…” Mr. Dave announced and Mr. Chorus opened his mouth in agape.

.”What?” Mr. Chorus screamed loudly.
