Near Kiss

Nicole

Seven drinks in and I was already feeling them. Patricia had been telling the bartender not to give them to me too quickly and unfortunately he had been listening. I just wanted to be drunk already, I felt uncomfortable.

I didn't know anyone except Blake, Patricia and Justus. The rest of the crowd was people I didn't know at all and I was feeling uncomfortable. I just wanted more drinks to chug.

At least I actually felt pretty today. Patricia picked out a satin, royal blue dress for me that actually complimented my figure. I could tell it was a good choice when Blake couldn't take his eyes off me when we first got here. And if I was honest, I liked the attention from him. He was looking at me like he was hungry and I was his last possible meal.

Now he was nowhere to be found, and neither was Justus. My best bet was that Blake was babysitting his best friend because last time I saw Justus, he was drunk out of his mind. My goal was to be as close to that as possible.

Hoping enough time had passed since my last drink, I smiled at the bartender and he chuckled as he nodded. I beamed, watching him prepare my next margarita.

The second he set it in front of me, I glued my lips to the straw and didn't set it down until it was empty. Patricia stopped talking to the group of girls that went up to her and was about to tell me something when she saw the new empty glass. Her eyes bounced between my face and all the glass cups, looking impressed and disappointed at the same time.

"What?" I giggled, standing from my stool to go to the dance floor. I was already a little dizzy, but I was fine. "Let's go dance."

She only had half the amount of drinks I've had, but she was a social person and was doing fine without the alcoholic help. Eight drinks in and I was barely getting the confidence she walked in here with. I wished I was like her, but at least I'd have the temporary confidence for now. That would suffice.

Smiling, she gave me her hand and allowed me to pull her to the dance floor. Everyone around us had already been dancing for a while so the room was hot and humid with everyone's sweat. Normally I'd be grossed out about that, but right now all I wanted to do was dance and enjoy my night.

The upbeat music was loud in my ears and I could feel the bass traveling from my feet up my body. Patricia put her hands on my waist and we both just let the music take over our bodies, throwing our heads back to laugh when people would bump into us by accident. Everyone was just enjoying the music.

I've never felt more free in my life. Not caring about what people thought about how I looked or how I moved. It was just me and Patricia enjoying our night after a couple of drinks.

When a pair of hands grabbed my waist from behind, I quickly let go of Patricia and spun around in confusion, backing up against her. She grabbed my waist to stop me from backing up further, just as I looked up at the big guy standing in front of me.

"Hey, gorgeous." He winked as he tried to grab at me again, but I backed away from his hands. He had a dimple on his left cheek, but it wasn't as deep as Blake's. Sure he was cute, but if he made me feel anything, it was just the feeling of missing Blake. "Can I have a dance?"

I shook my head as Patricia slid her hands up my stomach and over my boobs. My cheeks turned hot as his eyes followed her every move. If she was trying to make him back off, all she was really succeeding at was attracting him to us even more. The dude looked like he was a kid in a candy store.

Realizing he wasn't getting the hint that we weren't interested, she peeked her head over my shoulder and took one hand off my chest to shoo him away.

"She's mine, buddy. Back off."

Furrowing my brows when I realized the voice didn't come from behind me and sounded nothing like Patricia, I turned towards the source and saw Blake staring the guy down. He looked ready to fight him if he even laid a finger on me. I felt ashamed that I kind of wanted that to happen. Whether it was the drinks or my attraction towards him I wasn't sure, but I pressed my thighs together to hold myself together.

I couldn't possibly be getting horny over a possessive guy. It was definitely the drinks.

Patricia fully let go of me to get her brother to ignore the guy, who looked like he liked the challenge. Neither one of them looked like they were gonna give up until it was settled with a fist fight.

Not wanting a problem to start on Justus's special day, I waved Blake off and nodded to Patricia to take him away. It would just be one dance, there was no big deal about it.

Except Blake wasn't having it. As soon as I smiled up at the big guy and placed my hand in his, Blake hooked his arm around my waist and pulled me away from him. The guy didn't put up much of a fight when Blake threw me over his shoulder and carried me towards the stairs.

Even with the music playing downstairs, it was awfully quiet up here for a party. I was fully expecting to hear people moaning and screaming.

When we reached the farthest room in the corridor, he pulled out his keys and unlocked it. I was scared we'd accidentally walk into a room of naked people, considering it must've been locked for a reason. But as the door opened and I heard no noises, I took a peek and noticed the room was empty of people besides us two.

He gently set me down on the bed and fixed my dress for me as I stared up at him dumbfounded.

"Sorry for seeming like a crazy, possessive boyfriend." Was the first thing he said to me. "If it were any other guy I would've allowed you to dance with them, but not that guy."

I opened my mouth to speak, but had nothing to say except, "It's okay."

"I don't know who invited him or how he found out about the party, but he would've taken advantage of you." He slid a hand down his face and let out a deep sigh. "He's known for that."

"Well..." I played with my fingers in my lap as I thought of what to say. There was really only one thing I could say anyway. "Thank you."

He nodded, folding forward and propping his elbows on his knees as he set his face in his hands. "Why did you drink so much, dollface?"

"I'm fine," I lied. The room was spinning.

He turned his head towards me and the corner of his lips turned up as he called my bluff, "Can you walk in a straight line?"

"I can't even stand." I laughed, not even bothering to try. "I think I drank too fast."

"You think?"

"Mhm."

He sat up to have a good look at me. And I suddenly felt insecure. "How many did you have in total?"

I counted with my fingers, even though I knew how many I had already. Holding up eight fingers, I turned them towards him. "This many."

"And you chugged them all?"

"Mhmmm."

"You know you're gonna hate yourself in the morning, right?"

I laid back on the bed and sighed, knowing he was right but not really caring. "That's a problem for future me to worry about. Right now I just feel really good."

"That's good, but you should probably drink water now if you don't want your hangover to be the worst you've ever had."

Although the party was downstairs and I was drinking to gain confidence to be able to be around everyone, I really didn't mind being alone with him. Considering I was alone in a room with him everyday, it was weird that it felt so different at the moment.

If I had one more drink, I felt like I would've kissed him with the way he was looking at me. As if I was the most gorgeous girl he had ever looked at.

When I felt like there was nothing more to say, I smiled at him and he smiled right back. The dimples I was thinking about earlier appeared and I bit my lip.

His eyes bounced from my eyes to my lips and my heartbeat quickened when his body started leaning towards me. Just as our lips were gonna meet, the door opened and we both quickly pulled away when Patricia rushed in.

She stopped in her tracks for a second when she realized what was about to happen, but all she offered was a sympathetic smile before she told Blake that Justus was throwing up.

"Rest here all you want, okay?" He told me as he stood to walk out.

Patricia only mouthed a sorry before she walked out after him.
