Ricardo sighed as his misty sad eyes continued to scan little Jayden’s body which had red marks and blisters.

“Jayden- He muttered and tou-ched his shoulder.

“Oww” Jayden whimpered, painfully.

“It hurts so much, fath- He paused halfway as tears ran down his eyes.

“What’s it Jayden??” Ricardo quickly asked.

“Talk to me, please” He added, hurtfully.

“She told me to stop calling you father. You aren’t my father” Jayden said, sadly.

“You’re my son. I, being the only brother and sibling to your late mum, makes me a close family to you. Hence, I’m your father and you ought to call me that”

“And then, she will maltreat me again. And John will laugh at me with scorn. I don’t want that,,, sir” He had fear in his voice.

“Mr Ricardo? Should I grant an apeal for your wife’s release?” Mrs Doris asked.

“I’m sorry, ma’am but please, do so. I promise to talk to her and make her amend her ways. I’ve been a bad husband lteoy” Ricardo said.

Mra Doris sighed.
“Okay then. I’ll contact the DPO” She said and walked out of the ward.

THAT SAME DAY, NIGHT**

“I’m sorry. I’m really sorry. Please, Please…Forgive me. I swear!! I promise!! I won’t ever…ever hurt him again” Agatha begged with tears running down her eyes.

She was on her knees, ru-bbing hed palms together, begging and crying like there was no tomorrow for her.

“I’ve had enough!! Let’s divorce!!” He barked.

“No, please! It was the devil”

“Shut up! You’re the devil itself!”

“John!! John…For the sake of your son, please!!” She cried out.

John was crying also.
“I’m sorry father. I promise to change” He uttered.

“You’re a wicked woman, you know. I pleaded with you to take Jayden as your son, so why all thus, huh!!! Are you doing all this cause he’s an orphan? Don’t forget you were one too and you were treated well”

“Ricardo…I’m begging. I won’t do it ever again. Please! I’m sorry”

Ricardo sighed and squ-atted.
“Go to h*ll” He spat.

“If it happens again, divorce me! Drive me out of your place! Pleaseeee”

“You’re one terrible negotiator” He whispered.

“Huh?”

“I noticed why you’ve been doing this”

Agatha sniffed.

“You’re jealous cause you thought I only give Jayden love and care. If only you opened your eyes to see! To see that…I also shower care, bliss and love on our son too. You’re just too blind to see that or maybe your sight were occu-pied on how well I treated Jayden instead”

“Ri…Ricardo. I’m so…sorry. I’m…really sorry. None…none of this will ever happen again. I’ll treat Jayden right. He won’t get hurt ever again”

“If so, we need negotiate right”

“How?” She swallowed.

“If you hurt Jayden ever again, I won’t only divorce you but…I’ll disown John”

“What! No!…Ah..Why…why would you drag the innocent kid into my mess?? Why!”

“Wow. Now I see, you are gonna maltreat Jayden again. I don’t smell confidence. I don’t smell change!” He yelled to her face.

Ricardo was doing all this to threaten her. Maybe saying all this would put fear in her mind.

And for the sake of John, she wouldn’t have to hurt Jayden. She would just stay low. So, as he thought.

“I guess you aren’t ready. Move out!” He got on his feet.

He was about to turn against her when she suddenly grabbed his left leg. She laid down, wailing.

“Okay. Okay. I will. I will stop. I won’t hurt him. I’ll…take the negotiation” She mo-aned, sadly.

“Good. Now, look at me”

She slowly raised her red sore face to him.

“Apologize to him” Ricardo said, bringing a shaky and timid Jayden to her face.

“I should…what?”

“Apologize!!!”

She swallowed twice and slowly took her blinking eyes to Jayden.

“Jay…Jayden,,, I’m…I’m sorry”

“Is that all??!” He shouted.

“Jayden…Jayden…Forgive me. Forgive your poor mother. please!” She cried out.

“She won’t repeat it again. I promise. Please, forgive me. I’m sorry…Pardon me” She begged like she was insane.

Jayden said nothing.

Ricardo scoffed, in mockery.

Agatha looked at Jayden who gave her a taunting sm-irk on his smuggish sly face.

“What…are you doing?” She muttered, almost speechless.

“What do you mean?” Ricardo asked.

“He just- Agatha paused to see Jayden’s face back to the former.

Her eyes blinked, thinking she had seen wrong.

Jayden wouldn’t deny. He felt so good watching the heartless woman beg and bow before him.

“Jayden? Please, forgive my mother. I promise to be nice to you” John sobbed.

Ricardo sighed and looked at Jayden.

“Your wish is my command. What do you want? Do you want to her to stay or leave? Do you forgive her or not??”

Jayden looked at Agatha and gave her that sm-irk and smug again.

Her eyes wide-ned. She didn’t see wrong.

That little rat!

Her fist clenched ti-ghtly and strongly.

“I hope you won’t do it again” He said.

Agatha for-ced a smile and nodded.

“I promise”

Jayden took his eyes to Ricardo who gave him a warm smile.

“Dad” He called.

Ricardo smiled widely hearing ‘Dad’

“Talk to me.son” He replied.

Agatha bit her li-p trying to remain calm. She was getting furious and envious and Jayden was sure triggering it right. He wasn’t smart for nothing.

“I forgive her. Pardon her. But when she hurts me again, you are allowed to do your worst”

Agatha’s heart skipped instantly.

DAYS LATER**

“Little smartie” Agatha scoffed, wickedly as she chopped the vegetables on the board.

She was facing the window watching Jayden and John who were playing happily.

“His smile disgusts me. I…I…just wanna end him. His presence irks me to the core” She muttered, her eyes red and dewy.

“How do you expect me to enjoy this marriage? How do you expect me to be happy in this family??? When…an obnoxious insect dwells in my abode? How, Ah- She gasped and looked down.

Her finger was bleedng. She had mistakenly sliced her finger with the sharp knife since wasn’t concentrating.

She took her bleeding finger to her face and watched as her blood oozed out of the cut.

She seemed to be enjoying the view of this red liquid that dropped down from her finger with vigor.

She took her fury eyes to Jayden.

As she was still glaring hatefully, Ricardo suddenly came into view.

“Dad!!” Jayden and John both screamed.

Jayden ran to him first and threw his all body on him. Ricardo caught him fast and they hug-ged.

“You coward! You should have ran fas-ter. Maybe, you would be the one he would be hugging instead of that brute” She spat.

Ricardo looked down and smiled at John. He patted his hair and with an arm, he lifted him up and also made space for him on his che-st.

Afterwards, he hug-ged John.

“He’s just hugging his son now?” She hissed.

“I just don’t want his fatherly heart splitting into two. Its John or nobody” She growled, lowly.

She’s quickly ran to the bedroom and took her phone. She made a call.

“Hello, Its time. Let’s just proceed as planned. Let’s make it tomorrow” She said, and hanged the call.

“I’ve to kill you. I wanna see your blood flow till you die!, Ricardo won’t suspect I have a hand in his sudden death. John, don’t worry. You’ll be happy again. Your German mother will make you proud” She smiled.
