Bailly suffers knee injury in Manchester United defeat

The defender was hurt tangling with Eden Hazard early into the second half in west London, and was immediately substituted for Marcos Rojo
Jose Mourinho saw his Stamford Bridge woes increased on Saturday, as Eric Bailly injured his knee ligaments in Manchester United's 4-0 defeat away to Chelsea.

The Ivorian defender appeared to sustain a muscle injury just minutes into the second half, going down heavily after trying to challenge Eden Hazard.

Bailly was left on the ground clutching the back of his leg, and despite clambering to his feet was immediately replaced by Marcos Rojo.

And speaking after the game Jose Mourinho confirmed he had damaged his ligaments.

“Bailly is injured and I'm afraid it's a bad one. It is in his knee - in the ligament area," the manager explained.

It was a further defensive setback Mourinho did not need, as a comprehensive defeat and the injury meant the Portuguese's return to his former club was far from happy.
