>>By 7:05 in d morning, I was fully dressed to leave for office….. My Mary called for # morning_prayer …., even though I was fully in haste, still I waited patiently for prayers….. I no dey joke with prayers o, especially on a day like that, I needed God the most. After the prayers, I received my normal kiss from my angel and I zoomed off……..

>>On my way to d office, I called Dr Korede…..he too said he was on his way to d hospital……

PHONE CONVERSATION

DR SANYA: What of Nurse Gbemisola? Were u able to reach her?

DR KOREDE: Yes, she called about 5minutes ago to tell me that she was already at work
.
DR SANYA: Brilliant!!!….. See u soon

[END OF PHONE CONVERSATION…..]

10minutes after, I was at d hospital….., Dr Korede had arrived before me, I met him seated with Gbemisola right in my office….. Seeing me arrived too, she started acting #uneasy….She greeted me and I responded with a broad smile just to ease her unnecessary tension…. I calmly took my seat infront of me…..I commenced d conversation sharply…. we must conclude our own part of d talk before d wife and her brother arrive….. Nurse Gbemisola expectantly looked on at Dr Korede and I….]

DR SANYA: Nurse Gbemisola, I know u are wondering why we are here like this…
.
[ She nodded in affirmation]
.
DR SANYA: Well, we need to round off our own talk quickly because #they will soon be here to question u
.
[ Nurse Gbemi looked puzzled, not knowing what we are actually talking about…..]
.
DR SANYA: Please doctor, who are the “they”?
.
DR SANYA: I am talking of d deceased wife and that her brother u saw her talked with yesterday….
.
[ I had thought she would still be confused of what I meant, but instead, she hung down her head, meaning she realised that d cat must have been let out of the bag…..I turned a #knowing_look at Dr Korede who too looked surprised… Silence existed for a while….]

DR SANYA: Nurse Gbemisola, did u kill him?
.
[ She looked up sharply at me]
.
NURSE GBEMI: Is that what uncle Rasaq believed?
.
DR KOREDE: Who is uncle Rasaq?
.
NURSE GBEMI: The man the deceased’s wife spoke with yesterday….
.
DR SANYA: Yes, the same man I told u about….
.
DR KOREDE: Oh, I see.
.
NURSE GBEMI: I didn’t kill him….
.
DR SANYA: So, u truly knew the deceased….
.
[ She hung her head down again, with her eyes #suffused with tears….]

NURSE GBEMI: Yes, I did….but let’s get it straight, I did not kill him…. I can’t kill

DR KOREDE: Yes, we know u can’t kill…. We trust u
.
DR SANYA: Who killed him?
.
[ She had a deep breath]
.
NURSE GBEMI: I can’t answer that question, sir. Mr Yusuf died of food poisoning….The wife lived with him, so she is in the best position to explain how her husband got poisoned through food.

[Yes, I think nurse Gbemi has a point there…..How could she have poisoned someone she didn’t live with?]

DR KOREDE: Since when have u known him…..
.
[ I cut in ]

DR SANYA: And when last did u see him before he was rushed in here?

NURSE GBEMI: We met in the year 2017, June precisely….
.
DR SANYA: …….meaning that u guys were only together for just a year…..
.
NURSE GBEMI: Not up to a year, sir. The last time I saw him was in December last year
.
DR KOREDE: We are in year 2018… Does that mean that the relationship lasted for just 6months?

NURSE GBEMI: Yes, doctor
.
DR SANYA: Why?

NURSE GBEMI: It’s a long story, sir. I will suggest we reserve how I met Yusuf and what transpired thereafter till d wife comes with her so-called questions….

[ I was amazed. It seemed nurse Gbemi was growing fast in #confidence as d questioning proceeded….. Where was her confidence coming from? Did that mean that she didn’t kill Yusuf? ……because only the righteous can be as bold as lion.]

>>>>Dr Korede and I were totally short of d next question to ask her…..so, silence existed for a while….

DR KOREDE: As it is now, just be careful with the way u answer their questions when they are here….

NURSE GBEMI: OK, doctor… thank u sir.

[ A phone call came into Dr Korede’s phone…..,he excused himself out of d office to pick the call….., remainning only nurse Gbemi and I alone…..]

NURSE GBEMI: Doctor…
.
DR SANYA: Yes…I am with u
.
NURSE GBEMI: You asked me the other time if I killed Mr Yusuf…
.
DR SANYA: Yes….
.
NURSE GBEMI: Mr Yusuf was a wicked man….., very deceitful. He hurt me on so many occasions…., he let me down for no reason so many times…, he left me downcasted… I almost committed suicide for his sake….

[ I was confused, I never knew where she was heading to in d talk….but I listened patiently]

NURSE GBEMI: Despite all these, I never for once thought evil of him…. But sir, right now, it’s dawning on me that Mr Yusuf could have been careless not to know that the enemy #within could be more dreadful than the enemy #outside…

DR SANYA: Nurse Gbemisola, why are you talking in parables? The more u talk, the more I get confused….
.
NURSE GBEMI: I know. The deceased wife has so many questions to answer from me…. I am just praying they decide to come with policemen.

DR SANYA: Hmmmm. Are u in any way saying that d wife could have a hand in the husband’s death?
.
NURSE GBEMI: Believe me sir, I don’t know….but I know that her responses to some questions I have for her will definitely lead us to d real #murderer

DR SANYA: Are u sure?

NURSE GBEMI: Double sure, sir. It is she versus I.
.
>>>At this juncture, I knew that the battle-line was drawn and I couldn’t wait to witness d forth-coming battle between the two ladies….. But I was still confused of certain things: #Firstly, where did nurse Gbemi get this sudden #boldness with which she wanted to confront d wife? #Secondly , she never said all these when Dr Korede was on seat…. why? #Thirdly, what could her questions be for Mrs Yusuf? Hmmmmmmm Definitely, we are in for a long thing!!!

NURSE GBEMI: Permit me to take my leave now, sir. I shall be waiting for them….

[ Her #sudden confidence dazed me….. I remained speechless….Dr Korede never bothered coming in again after receiving his call, I didnt know why sha…..She stood up to leave…. but as she approached d door, my phone began to ring…..I picked it up, it was a call from Mrs Yusuf….]

DR SANYA: Good morning, madam
.
[ Hearing the word “madam”, nurse Gbemi stood still at d entrance, listening to the conversation….]
.
MRS YUSUF: We are on our way…. I hope you are in office already?
.
DR SANYA: Yes, I am
.
MRS YUSUF: What about her?
.
[ I looked at nurse Gbemi in the eyes….she got the message and she smiled….]
.
DR SANYA: She too is available…. All right….See u soon.

DR SANYA: They are coming!

NURSE GBEMI: No wahala…. I shall be waiting for them!

[ Nurse Gbemisola walked out of my office immediately….. I looked on so baffled, not knowing the questions these two ladies had for each other…..]
