>>Adeola warned me against the investigation…. na me no listen ooo… At a time, she even tried discouraging me from continuing, saying that the #shocks and #surprises therein may live with me forever….hmmmmm. Does that mean that some things in life are better left as secrets?

>>Even Nurse Gbemi, seeing my Mary on seat with my father shouted Jesus because she was by my side at the gate a minute ago when I received Mary’s call that she was in her office….is my father’s sitting room now the office? Besides all these, how did she locate my father’s house because I can’t remember ever taking her home…..

>>>Wait oooooooo, or is my Mary…, sorry is Mary part of the #conspiracy surrounding Yusuf’s death? Ah! ….

>>All these were the thoughts in my mind within the few seconds that I saw them….Mary hung down her head, I guess shame of lieing to me had already caught up with her…, I too lied, after all, I said I was in the office too a minute ago, not in my home town….but the matter on ground don pass all that….Nurse Gbemisola just stood at a spot speechlessly…..My bones were shaking inside my body. Yes, at the car outside, Adeola told me to act like a real man no matter what I encounter in the course of this investigation…, but as it is now, water don dey pass gaari…. I am loosing it. Gbemisola was expecting me to say something, I also was expecting either my father or Mary to start talking…..Just as u know, the original plan we brought in is #damaged already….

FATHER: Welcome, my boy

[ No response]

FATHER: I know you are surprised by this seating…. We too were never expecting you….

[ Those were never the statements I was expecting to start hearing, so I cut in #angrily]

DR SANYA: Stop it, dad! Common dad, your statements are off-points…. For God’s sake this is my fiancée on seat beside u, a lady who told me two minutes ago that she was in office back then in Ibadan….

FATHER: Son, what are u trying to insinuate?

DR SANYA: I am not yet at any conclusion, especially with what brought me home, I think the two of you need to start telling me what this your meeting is all about

[ My dad became more curious, wanting to know why I am at home…]

FATHER: Son, what brought you home?
.
DR SANYA: Tell me, what brought Mary home?
.
[ Father stood up gently and moved closer to me…., he placed a hand on my shoulder….]

FATHER: (Calmly) I understand how you feel…. But we can talk about this without making it dramatic….
.
[ I agreed to hear him out, so I sat down and brought Gbemisola along as she sat by my side…. Mary’s eyes never left Gbemisola’s body as we sit down. …Gbemisola collected my phone from me, I didn’t even care to know what she wanted to do with it]
.
DR SANYA: What’s Mary doing here, dad?

[ I noticed that Gbemisola was dialling a number on my phone…..

FATHER: Calm down. I just hope u know that l am not into any love-relationship with your girl…
.
[ For the first time, Mary cut in]

MARY: Daddy, with whom you are seeing by his side right there, can I still be called his girl?
.
[ That question sunk into me real deep….In my mind, I started hoping they are not trying to divert my mind from the real thing that had brought them together under the same roof…. Hmmmmm, I think I need #Adeola here now….Somebody must unravel the drama going on in this sitting room as quick as possible….]

FATHER: Common Mary, don’t talk like that. We don’t even know why they are here….
.
DR SANYA: (Talking to Mary) So, this is your office…
.
MARY: And is here your own hospital ward?
.
[ Nice one! See confidence!!]

DR SANYA: So, you and my father have been running things together….
.
FATHER: Running things together?? What do u mean by that, boy?
.
DR SANYA: The game is up, dad.
.
MARY: You are losing it, Sanya. So you could think I am dating your own father…
.
[ I cut in sharply on top of my voice that even scared Gbemisola]

DR SANYA: Will you shut up! Who is talking about #love here?
.
[ My team ( Dr Korede, Mrs Yusuf, Mr Rasaq, Dayo and Adeola) all rushed in at once…]
.
ADEOLA: It’s all right, Sanya. Calm down, please. I know you are having that pain of betrayal right now, but u still need to take things easy…., remember what I told you…. You must act like a man, no matter the situation….
.
[ Adeola’s voice has d magic of calming me down…. I allowed her to have the floor…]
.
DR SANYA: Thanks for coming…., but I didn’t call u
.
NURSE GBEMI: I did.
.
DR SANYA: Good
.
[ My dad and Mary looked on, not getting what was going on….but I began to observe their looks on Dr Korede and Dayo…, that began to confirm it to me that these people knew one another and that they have been working together….. Oh my God. Dad went to sit down while Mary looked so regretful….. But why did they kill Yusuf #collaborately ??

DR SANYA: Daddy, I am very sure u recognise this okada man here….I learnt his name is Dayo….
.
FATHER: Of course, I know him very well…. Look, I now know why you people are here… You want to know why Yusuf had to die
.
DR SANYA: No, we are here to know why you and your people had to kill Yusuf
.
FATHER: My people?? Who are my people?
.
DR SANYA: This man called Dayo, my assistant doctor here and this Mary….
.
FATHER: (Smiling) Sanya, there are so many things you don’t understand yet….
.
DR SANYA: You can start talking dad, that’s why we are here
.
FATHER: I knew Yusuf before you ever met him…., his father and I used to be intimate friends back then in the late 1970s when we were both working with a Chinese Company in Lagos…. It was through Yusuf’s father that I got to know your mother. Then, Yusuf’s father told me they were casual friends, and he urged me to woo her… I did and she agreed to date me. I never knew that your mother was his lover…. For more than a year, your mother dated the two of us and I never knew …..until one day in April, 1980. I was in a bank and armed robbers stormed it….After robbing for close to 2hours, they wanted to go away with their millions. As they were leaving the banking hall, one of them just grapped me from where I was on my belly….they dragged me straight to their car outside. I was put inside their car #boot. Believe me, I never knew I would make it. After what I knew to be a long drive, I was dropped down and they drove #off. I got to know that I had been taking to Ondo town in Ondo State all the way from Ogbomoso in Oyo State here through a #sign_board nearby

[ Everyone of us was listening patiently to know how that resulted into Yusuf’s death….]
.
FATHER: Where I was on the ground, I was very weak…., nobody was around. I walked for about a #kilometer before I could see an hotel. I decided to go in and seek for help, at least for money that can transport me back to #Ogbomoso…. I was at the reception when I saw my woman, your mother coming out #romantically of a hotel room with Yusuf’s father….This was your mother who told me she was visiting her parents in Ekiti… I was #heartbroken. They never expected me to be there at that time. I had to walk out of the hotel immediately in total disappointment…. hmmmmm . Your mother came back home that same to beg me. I vowed never to have anything to do with her anymore. But I was forced to change my decision when your mother said she did it to save my life…

DR SANYA: How?

FATHER: According to her, she wanted to leave Yusuf’s father immediately she started dating me but Yusuf’s father wouldn’t allow her. When she attempted to #forcefully leave him, that was when he threatened to kill me to have her to herself…. As a way out, he demanded to have her to himself for 3 good days…., it was on the third day that I caught them…….Believe me, I couldn’t understand why Yusuf’s father behaved that way, after all, he was the one who introduced her to me and confirm that I could date her….Few weeks after, Yusuf’s father quited his job with the Chinese company and left the town of Ogbomoso.

[ Everybody was listening #attentively]

DR SANYA: (Had a deep breath) So, what later happened?
.
FATHER: I forgave your mother out of the #true_love I had for her… she demanded we relocate to Ibadan. So, I quited my job with the Chinese company in Ogbomoso to start afresh in Ibadan. We gave birth to you in Ibadan. After 4years of being in Ibadan,…. then you were just 3years old, I came back from work one day, only to meet my wife in her pool of #blood ….it was a day I will never forget. I rushed her to the hospital where she was eventually confirmed dead.

DR SANYA: Who could have come home to assassinate my mother in such cold blood?
.
FATHER: I wouldn’t have known it was Yusuf’s father if not for my landlord who was an Islamic Cleric (Alfa). What could I do? I didn’t even know where to find him…..
.
[ At this point, I noticed that tears were dropping uncontrollably from the eyes of Adeola….]
.
FATHER: After the painful death of your mother, I vowed never to re-marry. So, I relocated to this town which is my home-town to raise u all by myself….
.
DR SANYA: And what about Yusuf’s father, did u later hear from him?
.
FATHER: Hmmmm….do u still remember the man I met infront of your hospital about a year ago the very day your uncle Kolapo’s wife put to bed in your hospital?
.
DR SANYA: One mad man like that??
.
FATHER: Yes
.
DR SANYA: Do u know him?
.
FATHER: He was the Yusuf’s father
.
DR SANYA: Jesus!!!
.
FATHER: Your belief is that Yusuf was a good young man because he saved u from cultists back then on campus ….. hmmmm. He rescued u from them that day in order to pay the cultists back for killing a cousin of his. Don’t forget that in the process, he #single_handedly killed few of them. Ordinary person can’t achieve that.

[ I turned to Adeola..]

DR SANYA: Could that be true?

ADEOLA: Very true! ….
.
DR SANYA: Even at that, he didn’t deserve to die…

[ Mary cut in]

MARY: Are you sure?
.
DR SANYA: Yes, of course! His father killed my mum and the man is out there paying for his sins….You people should have realised that Yusuf was not his father.

MARY: You never knew Yusuf….Or maybe you knew a side of his but never knew the other side of his #coin. He was taking after his father and so, he had to die

DR SANYA: You??….From your mouth?…. Wait a minute, don’t tell me you are the brain behind the killing of that innocent man….

MARY: I didn’t know he was your friend and I guess he too never knew me as your fiancée ….

DR SANYA: Was that his sin?
.
MARY: No!….
.
DR SANYA: (Shouting) What then did the innocent Yusuf do to you people?
.
FATHER: (Frankly) He raped her!
.
DR SANYA: Who raped who?
.
MARY: (In tears) Yusuf, your so-called good innocent friend raped me few weeks to his death
.
DR SANYA: What!!!!!
