She clutched onto my arm tightly once we were outside while I kept my two hands in my pocket like a boss I was as we marched to the tuck shop.

Getting there and it was already filled, no single seat to sit down. Most of the chances were occupied by our classmates. The outlawz had one corner, they were celebrating Kingsley’s comeback.
“Three number for kinsmen”. Kelvin chanted.

” kpoyaka! Kpoyaka! Kpoyaka!!”. They all shouted.

One of the Ss2 boys aspiring for prefect whom sat at a corner stood up and approached them.

“You kids should behave, here is not a playground”. He ordered and they all started faking coughs.

” Well it’s anything we want it to be”. Kelvin said and they giggled silently. The dude walked to his seat.

“Now that’s my Squad”. I said proudly smiling at Sharon, she didn’t seem excited about it though.

” can we go on already? My legs are shaking “. She said rolling her eyes and I smiled again then we went straight to buy what we wanted. I asked to order what she wanted but she said she’d take whatever I took. I ordered for meat pie for both of us because I knew how much she loved meat pie then ordered for two viju but she insisted I should get one so, I thought she didn’t want to drink.

” where to sit?”. I asked no one in particular, we could’ve joined the outlawz but I knew she wouldn’t want that.
“Must we sit in the canteen?”. She asked as she dragged me along then Kelvin caught sight of us and he stood up,Raised his bottle of sprite and shouted.

“Make we loud five number for the latest couple for jss1!!”.

” kpoyaka! Kpoyaka!! Kpoyaka!!! Kpoyaka!!!! Kpoyaka!!!!! “. They all yelled and started clapping. Then the same Ss2 lad stood up went straight and slapped Kelvin. Bully and the others sprang up but Kelvin Signaled them to stop, the few Ss2 boys in the tuck shop all sprang up too. I wanted to join them but Sharon pulled my arm and I remembered she was with me.

” Let’s go now “. She said as she pulled me along. While we left I could hear Kelvin’s voice.
” make una mellow, time never reach “. He said, while the SS2 boys were just ranting, throwing commands.

We walked out of the tuck shop and Sharon said we should go to Merry-go-round. We got there and of course it was filled with primary pupils but we found a seat for ourselves and as usual spoilt their fun as they stopped spinning.

” I should have joined my friends there”. I said tearing my meatpie open and Sharon frowned at me.

“Then what? Leave me?”. She asked and folded her arms.

” No…”.
“No one is holding you now, you can go on and join them”. She threw her face to another side.
” You know that’s not what I meant “. I tried to explain and she turn to me again.
” oh. What did you mean then? You should have joined the glorious troublemakers to fume for a fight?”. She asked staring into my eyes and I looked somewhere else quickly.
“They slapped Smart, you saw that”. I tried to explain.

” when did you start being his defender? “. She asked and I gave her a surprised look.
” He is my cousin “. I reminded her.
” So? Okay I get that you both look out for each other… ”

“We all do”. I corrected.
” Good. But, they were wrong and you know it. Jss1 disrespecting Ss2? Come on that’s a joke”. She scoffed.
It wasn’t as if I didn’t know this, they were our seniors fine but, they stopped being that the day they ignored our cry for help, everybody except the current Ss3’s stopped being anything to us. She continued when I Said nothing.

“Listen dear, I know they’re your friends, but I am too. And I wouldn’t like to see you in the middle of a fight. You seem to have forgotten that’s why you’re wearing this headband”. She concluded and I smiled at her.

” Now can we eat already? “. She asked and we both laughed before started eating, at intervals she’d cut mine and eat then I opened my drink and started drinking. She sat still and watched me with a blank face, then after a while she dragged it from my hands.
” You’re actually going to drink it alone?”. She asked hiding the drink behind her.
“What? You said you didn’t want”. I said looking surprised.

” Did I? I only said you should get one”. She shrugged.

“So what now?”.
” we drink together”. She said then brought out the drink, she sipped and gave to me. When she sipped the second time she refused to give me rather she fed it to my mouth direct. I was done sipping before I realized we were in the mist of primary kids.
“Oh d--n”. I yelled almost throwing up.
“What’s wrong?”. She asked looking worried.

” Can’t you see we’re in the mist of kids?”. I asked and she shrugged.
“What’s wrong with that?”. She asked.
” Nothing is ever with anything to you”. I said then stood up and started leaving. I heard her asking the pupils to have their fun while she ran after me.

“Won’t you wait for me?”. She said, trying to catch up. Finally she caught up with me, immediately we got out of the playground we met face to face with Jenny and her friends. She shot bullets at me with her eyes but it didn’t scare me though, never did. A good thing it was Sharon that held unto me and not otherwise. Her friends on the other hand were smiling at us.

” Hello seniors “. Sharon waved at them and they returned her greeting.
” Hi sis, what’s up”. She said to Jenny whom feigned a smile, shrugged gave me one last stare before she left with her friends.
“I bet she doesn’t know yet”. I said as we walked on and Sharon chuckled.
” wrong bet then, She knows already and I didn’t tell her, rather she told me “. She said relaxing her head on my shoulder again.
” Do you want to sleep? “. I asked her and she smiled.

” on your shoulder? Maybe”. She said.
Even from her voice you could tell she needed a little nap. I led her into the classroom, she sat and la!d her head on the desk.
“Get as much sleep as you can”. I said to her.

” You’re not leaving me behind, are you?”. She asked dizzily and I smiled at her.
“Of course not”. I said then she closed her eyes and slept off. I climbed the top of my desk and sat down watching her sleep. She was a sleeping beauty too, what about her could ever be wrong? Right there I believed I was going to be a better person because of her. I was just a wild cub that needed a good tamer and God had brought her to me.
” well, such a sight”. Miriam said walking into our class majestically.
