Indigo (Shade of a golden heart) - Season 1 - Episode 11

Indigo closed her eyes and remained still, waiting for something to happen, for someone to come to her rescue and deliver her from this mad man. God answered her prayers.
‘Stupid b---h of a girl…’ she heard the angry customer marching towards her. People were calling to him to stop, in those muffled voices that struggled to outdo each other, she heard Halima’s voice and the voice of her boss, and a third voice…which sounded unbelievable.

‘If you lay your hands on her one more time, I’ll make sure you lose a teeth.’ Phillip threatened.
He was appalled by the scene before him, he could never lay a hands on another human, on a woman for that matter.
‘And who the f--k are you?’ The angry customer turned his attention to Phillip.
‘You really want to know me yea?’ Phillip curled his fingers and launched the man a blow which pushed him backwards and propelled him into a staggering bout that lasted five minutes.
Indigo’s eyes cracked open as Halima tapped her, ‘Get up Indigo, this is your fault.’ She’d wanted to protest, but Halima dragged her to her feet.
‘How dare you hit me?’ The angry man pulled out a dagger from his pocket and stormed towards Phillip, but Phillip had been quick to see him, he rushed towards the man and launched him a blow which landed his back on the floor.
By now, the shop was scanty as people had fled the violent scene.

Please Sir, it is enough, I’ll take it from there.’ The fat security officer, who’d smiled at Indigo marched in with two other men, who helped bundle the angry man out of the shop.

Indigo was greatly ashamed, this was all her fault like Halima had rightly said. If she had not been distracted by his handsomeness, maybe she would have served the man coffee without spilling it on his wrist.
‘Are you alright?’ Phillip marched towards Indigo with concern all over his face.
‘Yes.’ She stared at the floor.

Her boss appeared right behind her minutes later with an angry look on his face, ‘How can you cause so much harm on your first day at work?’
‘Sir, I am terribly sorry about what happened here today, It would never happen again.’ She apologized amidst tears.

Phillip felt sick that the management would blame the girl for everything that had taken place. He felt like saying this to their face but he decided to keep mute and see where this would lead to.

‘You are right, it’s not going to happen again, because you are fired. Get your things and get the hell out of here.’ The boss snapped after her apology.

For a second, she thought he was bluffing but he meant it, ‘Sir… please, just give me another chance.’ She fell on her knees, not caring what the handsome stranger would think of her.
‘There’s no need to beg me, God knows how many customers I have lost today because of your clumsiness. You are very pretty, I should have known that such great beauty comes with foolishness. Now, get the hell out of this place or I’ll bundle you out myself.’

When she heard this, she knew it was over for her. Her whole world was turned upside down. Where would she start from?

With great shame, she peeled herself from the floor and walked towards the dressing room where she had dropped her bag.

‘I am sorry about everything sir, I always hire the best, but I made a mistake today. What would you like to have?’ The manager noticed Phillip had been looking at him.

Phillip felt like punching the man on the face for making Indigo to cry, ‘You know why you’ll never prosper? You are a biased motherfu-Cker! That man had no right to hit a girl no matter what! But you turned a blind eye and you couldn’t even pay for the damages he did to her nose.’
‘You don’t have that right, you can’t just walk in here and say s--t you know nothing about.’ The manager cursed at Phillip.

It was time to switch into the heartless Phillip Hajjo, ‘Then you don’t know who I am. It’s a promise, in seven days, I will bring this building down. If you don’t know me, then you’ll know PIE.’

The last word scared the man, he knew what P.I.E meant, ‘You’re bluffing.’
‘Why don’t you watch and pray?’ Phillip sneered and left the shop on a quick spin of his heels.

By the time Indigo returned, she noticed he was gone and this made her feel sad.
‘Thank you sir for the opportunity.’ She smiled at her boss, then turned to Halima and waved at her, ‘Goodbye Halima.’

She trotted out without looking back a second time, she was more concerned about the future and the face of the man who kept appearing in her mind.

She had cried enough, she decided it was time to find a new job without letting Anna know what had happened to this one. If she told Annabel what had led to her losing of her seventh job, her friend would be raving mad and would never help her again.

This was her cross to carry and she was ready to carry it alone.

Today was not going to be a wasted day. She decided to head straight to the Bethsaida hospital where she would purchase the inhaler for her grandfather before it was too late.
Indigo pulled open her zip to get some money for her fare to the hospital. That was when she discovered that the little purse where she kept the money Annabel had given to her was gone.
No, she was not going to panic. She was going to take her time and search the bag before anything else. She carefully pushed her fingers through the contents of her bag which were mostly books, but the purse was nowhere to be found.
‘No’ her heart broke into pieces as she realized that the money was gone.
