The killers guild - Season 1 - Episode 94

“I think this place is well hidden,” Lance says to Frank as they dragged the unconscious bouncer away from the entrance to the side of the club. “No one should notice him here since it’s already dark.” He added.

“Yeah,” Frank says. “But how long before someone realize that the bouncer is missing or he wakes up.”

“Then we’d better be quick,” Lance says, walking towards the entrance. “Now stop being a pessimist and come on.”

The club was buzzing with excitement when they entered; smell of weed and alcohol filled the air. The loud music blaring from the speakers was deafening. The room was illuminated by two large disco balls, rotating on the ceiling. Most of the clubbers were having an orgy and no one seems to have noticed Lance and Frank enter.

A group of mean looking men and women were gambling at the back of the room, yelling at the top of their voice.

“See that guy in the middle?” Frank says to Lance raising his voice a little to be heard over the loud noise, he gestured towards a guy with a Mohawk hairstyle and a scorpion tattoo on his neck. “That’s the Razor.”

Lance took his time to sum the guy up, he’s few inches above six feet, he has a nasty scar on his face and he’s of average built. The Razor was sitting at a table with a man whom he was gambling with, seven other guys stood behind him. ‘They must be his bodyguards.’ Lance thought.

“Let’s go say hi.” Lance says to Frank. He started towards The Razor and Frank followed with the briefcase still in his hand.

“Hey fellas, how goes it.” Lance says, approaching the table.

The Razor looked up from his cards with a frown. “What do you want?” He yelled.

Lance looked at the face of the two men who were gambling and he could tell that The Razor was winning the bet. “I just couldn’t help but notice how you were schooling this guy and then I thought maybe you’d like a real challenge.” Lance says sitting down on a vacant chair.

“You wish to challenge me?” The Razor says with a scoff.

“Yep,” Lance says, reclining in his chair.
“Ah!” The Razor bursts into laughter and his men laughed as well.

“I don’t see what’s so funny.” Lance says.
“The fact that you wish to challenge me, that’s what’s funny, no one’s ever beaten me at poker.” The Razor says. “I have no problem if you wish to humiliate yourself but you’ll have to make it worth my while, so what’s your stake?”

“Marco,” Lance says to Frank who was standing behind him. “Show him the case.”

“Yes sir.” Frank answered; he placed the briefcase on the table and opened it for The Razor to see, a look of recognition struck his face.

“Alright, enough of this drama.” The Razor says slamming his fist on the table. “One look at you scumbags and I could tell you were coppers. If you’ve got the guts to step into my lair then you must have a good reason for doing so. So tell me what you really want?”

Sensing tension in the air the guy who had been gambling with The Razor stood up and left the table to join another group.

“I already told you,” Lance says feeling his belt holster with his hand to reassure himself that his gun was at the ready in case push comes to shove. “I just want to play cards.”

“Alright then let’s play,” The Razor says. “But we are going to up the stakes. If you win I’ll give you what you truly want. Which is?”

“I want information about Bob Goatee,” Lance says. “Tell me where I can find him.”

The Razor laughed in a cruel manner. “So that’s what you want? Very well then I’ll tell you, if you win but if you lose… you die, both of you.” The Razor says with a cruel look on his face that shows he wasn’t kidding. “So tell me, do you agree with this?”

“I do.” Lance says confidently.
“I don’t.” Frank countered.
“Stop being a scaredy cat and trust me.” Lance whispered to him.

“Pardon me if I don’t intend to stand here while you play poker with my life on the line.” Frank whispered back clearly agitated.

The Razor stared amusingly as the two were arguing.

“Trust me, I’ve got this,” Lance says trying to reassure Frank.

Frank took a deep breath and sighed. “Alright.” He said and sat next to him.
“Have you concluded?” The Razor asks.
“Sure,” Lance says. “You have yourself a bet.”

“Let’s begin.” The Razor says.
One of the goons sets up the table and each man chose his cards. Lance stared intently at The Razor’s eyes as they were playing. This wasn’t the first time Lance would be gambling with his life on the line. Thanks to his skill at reading people’s eyes, he could always tell what his opponent’s next move would be. This method had always worked for him and he wasn’t going to make an exception tonight.

After a couple of rounds Lance upped the ante to maximum, staking it all.

“You know what you’re doing right?” Frank whispered to Lance, knowing full well that if The Razor wins this round he wins it all.
“Trust me.” Lance says.

The Razor laughed in a cruel manner as he revealed his hand, it was a Royal flush.

Frank didn’t know much about poker but he knew that the Royal Flush is the highest hand in poker. ‘We’re doom.’ He thought to himself.
“Looks like I win,” The Razor says with a murderous look in his eyes.

“Not quite,” Lance says showing his hand, a five of a kind. The Razor was flabbergasted. “Seems you have forgotten there is a wild card on deck.”
“Does this means….?” Frank asks.

“Yes, it means I’ve won.” Lance says with a smile.

“Yes!!” Frank exclaimed excitedly.
“Good game, I’m truly impressed.” The Razor says, faking a smile. “Word has it that Bob Goatee will be meeting with one of his business associates at the flour factory downtown by four pm tomorrow.”

Lance looked him in the eye to make sure he was telling the truth, when he was convinced that he wasn’t been lied to he made to speak but The Razor cuts in. “You do know that I cannot allow you to leave.” Bringing his gun out from its holster, he continued. “It won’t look good on my person if I allow every Tom, Dik and Harry walk into my crib, make fun of me and walk out alive.”

“But we had a deal.” Frank says in anger as two goons pinned him on his chair by placing their hands on his shoulder.

“I already kept to the deal by telling you where you can find Bob Goatee but no part of the bet says I can’t kill you afterwards. Sorry son but that’s why I’m called the devil’s son in-law, I can’t be trusted.” The Razor says, pointing the gun to Lance face. “Any last words?”
