Lawal and Ibrahim were always coming
around, also in brand new Clothes; they both
have Motor Cycles now and were cruising the
Barracks and environs with Caroline and
Pauline. Their life style changed just within
three weeks. They were everywhere with my
Sisters, they slept out most times to return
home fagged out in the Morning. I eaves
dropped on their discussion most times and I
discovered they have started clubbing and
drinking. I smelled trouble.

Meanwhile during the waiting period, I had
rented a very spacious Shop at national
Stadium Complex Ogui Road. The shop is
strategically located facing the major Road. I
paid for three years in advance and it gulped a
whooping nine hundred thousand naira. I also
rented a three bed room flat at Onu Asata area and paid Three hundred thousand naira for two years advance. I did not tell any of my Sisters what I had done except for Cordellia who actually assisted with connections to get the house and Shop. I had chartered a Pick up Van to Mr. Chinedu’s House to transfer my
Properties to the Shop; I travelled to the
popular Ochanja market at Onitsha and bought
every other equipment I needed for my
business. I bought several Textile Materials
and sewing Materials for sell. I furnished my
apartment sparsely. Mattresses in all the
rooms, Kitchen Utensils and gas Cooker, basic
Electronic Gadgets in the Sitting Room, a
complete set of lemon coloured upholstery
Furniture to match the colour of the walls,
lemon c-m Milk coloured Curtains. Cordellia
actually bought the Curtains as she insisted on
contributing something to the house.

They returned home one morning and after we all ate and took our bath, I called Caroline into the room for a serious talk.

Aunty please o! Do not feel offended, but I
need to speak with you: I said
What is it about Derby? Hope there is no
problem? She said.

It is not a problem Aunty; it is just a
suggestion on the way forward, how far with
Mummy’s Money? I asked.

What do you mean by how far with mummy’s money? She countered: what sort of stupid question is that?
