Story of a Survivor - Season 1 - Episode 31

Rose petals
The next two years of my life happened so
fast. How time flies when all seems well. So
many things happened simultaneously but I will try and take it one after the other.

That night my Captain kissed me opened a
river in my heart. A river that had been caged
for years because of my quest to survive and
make a head way in life, a river that I never
knew existed. A river of love. I had never
known romance; it had been the least of my
problems. I have had passes made at me by
Boys and Men alike but I had always seen
them as opportunists that would devour me
and worsen my situation. But I as grew
matured I began to notice that heads turn
when I pass, especially when I became a
fashion designer, but I had thought they were
admiring my dresses and this propelled me to
improve upon the designs I wear. I know I am
beautiful because my sisters are, and we
somehow look alike, but I never knew that
there is power in being female. That power, my Captain unlocked, and the river that had been caged flowed. As it flowed, it washed away the pains I had endured in life, it washed away my fears of fighting alone, it washed away loneliness in my life and it washed away the weight I had borne so long. I felt lighter when I walked; I floated when my captain walked with me. I came to know laughter, when I sleep I slept like a baby. I became careless because I had a careful captain, he was all my care, and
he was in me.

Captain Doctor Ayodeji John Idowu hailed from
Ise-Ekiti Local Government Area of Ekiti state,
his father is a Professor and lectures at the
Obafemi Awolowo University and the Mother
lectures at the Osun state College of
Education Ilesha. He grew up at Ife and
attended the University of Ife where he
graduated as a medical doctor at the age of
twenty three with First Class honours; he
enlisted in the Nigerian Army Direct short
service programme, at the Nigerian defense
Academy Kaduna as a Military Cadet. On
graduation he was transferred to India as a
military Attaché, he spent two years in India
and was promoted to the rank of captain and
transferred to 82 Division medical Corp as the
commanding Officer. He has spent just one
year in Enugu, he is six years older than me,
but he handles me as if he is twenty years
older than me, He is dark complexioned, six
foot tall and built like a sprinter which he
actually is, though not as a professional, but
he goes out jogging every morning and works
out at the military Gymnasium. He plays
basket ball like a professional. He is an avid
reader of Books of various genres and is a fine
medical Doctor because he is first a Doctor
before a Soldier.

My Captain spent most of his leisure time with
me; if he is not on duty at work, then he is on
duty at my Office. Oh! My Office I said? Okay
let me go back a little.

I could not sleep that night he proposed his
love to me, he was the last to leave Cordellia’s House that night or do I say that Morning?

Yes! 3:45AM is morning, that was when he
drove back to his house in the Barracks, he
lived at the Officers Quarters, he had two
Alsatian Dogs that he loved so much , he has
two Military Bats men and an Orderly at his
beck and call, these men wash his Clothes and
iron them he has an Official Car with a Military
Driver, he has two personal cars, his father
gave him a Honda Accord on his graduation as
a medical doctor while he bought a Tata SUV
from India. All of these soldiers around him
call me madam! Madam! Whenever I visited
him or they accompany him to my house. My
house I said? Oh! I digressed again!

Back to that night! I could not sleep! I was
fantasizing all day! I felt so light and happy, I
asked Cordellia several silly questions about
relationships and she was happy as she
answered all my ignorant questions. When I
finally fell asleep at2:00PM because Cordellia
had to go for Lectures I slept like I was
drugged dreaming of my Captain: Cordellia
woke me up at 11:00am at night when she
returned home, she said she had to wake me
up to eat some food; she said I was talking
and laughing in my sleep.
