Story of a Survivor - Season 1 - Episode 32

epi 30

I spent seven days at Cordellia’s, Silvia was still with me and Tochi and Amara had gone back to the Home.

My Captain came on the last night
and told me we have to discuss the next level of my life together.

I told him what I had planned to do on my
birthday before the Lawal’s incidence, I told him about my Younger Brother Chinedu and the bondage he is living in, I told him about Silvia’s ambition, I told him what the Orphanage told us about when Tochi and Amara would be due to leave the Home. I told him about my ambition to retrieve all my Uncle stole from us and give
them to the rightful owner, Chinedu. I told him of my plan to steal Chinedu from My Uncle’s House and reshape his life. We talked for a while and as we talked, he was taking notes on a note pad; then he asked me a salient question.

Baby! He said. I have heard all that you said, and I buy all of your plans. But something is missing!

What is it Captain? I asked. He said: this captain you are calling me, when will you stop it?

What? Are you not a captain? You are my
Captain joor! I said childishly;
Okay! What would you call me when I get
promoted to a major? Or a Lieutenant Colonel?

Will you keep on changing my name? He asked.

Oh! I have not thought of that o! I exclaimed.

Don’t worry he said you can call me anything
that you like so long as you don’t call me a
Monkey! I reeled in laughter.

What about you Ada? What plans do you have for yourself, every plan you have told me is targeted at your siblings! What do you plan to do for yourself? Fine! I know you have tried to set up the Shop and you have rented an apartment, is that all? So you will just sit down now and focus on how to continue fighting the world? I was speechless:
He continued, you shall officially open your Shop on the first day of October, which is less than two months from today and that is my Birthday!

Wao! I exclaimed. You were born on Nigerian’s Independence Day? I asked. No! He said, our independence day was in 1960, I was born in 1974. I gave him a thud on the Chest. You know what I mean! October first is the day we celebrate Nigerian Independence. He laughed.

“Tomorrow, I will send some soldiers to Clean up your House and its environment; they will place a
“Military Zone keep off!” sign by your gate. I will tell my Colleague at the Army Public relations department to print some invitation Cards for the opening ceremony on the first of October, there shall be a night party at the Officers mess that night organized by my Friends to mark my Birthday. Like how many Invitation cards would you need? I thought for a while and I said about thirty.

Good! He said: I will personally need about
two hundred; I interjected and screamed two
hundred! Ha! For what? Where will they stay?
Who will feed them?

He laughed. His laughter was so infectious that I started laughing too, but I did not know why I was laughing, my former self would have felt offended that he was laughing at my ignorance.

His laughter actually told me he was taking
charge of me and I loved the feeling, so I
laughed. Here was someone I had just started a relationship with in seven days and it felt like I have known him for ever.
