Captain called me during his working hour on a Monday evening in July, he said I should come to the Military Hospital immediately, he sounded calm on the Phone but I was scared because he had never invited me to the hospital while he is on duty.

Chinedu was at the Shop then so I took
him along.

We got to the hospital and I went straight to his office, he was attending to a patient and there were other patients on queue so I sat down and sent him a text message that I was around.

After some five minutes a Military female nurse came to me and asked if I was Captain Ayo’s Fiancée,
I said yes; she said,.

Please follow me ma! I got
up and followed her beckoning at Chinedu to
follow too.

She got to a door and pushed it open, it was an
open ward for patients on admission; she pointed to a bed at the end of the hall and said.

Captain said you should take a look at that patient, he said he will join you soon. My heart skipped as I thanked her; Mr. and Mrs. Chinedu? Cordellia?

Madam Ronke? Who could it be? My imagination was running wild.

I drew Chinedu closer and held
unto his hand as I moved slowly towards the
bed. A female was seated by the Bed backing
us, probably a visitor, the patient’s leg was
suspended in the air, head was bandaged, and
both hands stretched forward in P.O.P.

As we got close to the Bed, the visitor looked up at us; it was Pauline, we both moved our focus
to the patient on the bed, Caroline! Pauline stood up and away from me to the far end of the bed, she had a protruding Stomach, she looked haggard, her hair was unkempt, her eyes sunken, she covered her eyes as she pushed her body against the wall as if to hide in the wall.

I moved closer to the head of the bed and
peered into Caroline’s swollen eyes, she blinked as she saw me, tears dripped from the battered eyes, she tried to move her lips but she couldn’t, she moved her head slowly from side to side; I
got the message, I had been in that situation
before so I knew the kind of pain she would be
going through.

Who are these Aunties? Chinedu
asked.

They look like us o! Are they our Sisters?
He asked.

They heard him and Pauline stood up
from her squatting position and called his name;
Junior! Yes! He said; are you Aunty Carol or
Aunty Pauline? Pauline screamed as she raised her hands to her head and ran out of the hospital calling on Jesus! Caroline jerked
suddenly and became still, I smiled. She had
fainted; it had happened to me before.

I saw one of the Nurses attending to a patient, I signaled at him, he came immediately and I told him to resuscitate the Patient, for she had just gone into a coma.
