The one wey all of us snap with our Papa
and mama, dem carry me for hand inside that

the Picture give me from my Uncle room.

You sabi my name at all so.Chinedu? I asked
him; No o! na Aunty I de call you since nah. He
replied.

My name na Adanne! I told him.

Eiyah! Na one of my Sisters name o! My Uncle
say na dat one wicked pass for all my Papa
children. He dey call her stabber, he say she
been stab plenty women knife for their yansh
during my Papa burial.

I pulled his hands and stared into his eyes with
my tear filled eyes; na me be dat Junior! Na me be your Sister Adanne!

That was the day Chinedu packed all his
belongings and left my Uncles house; I drove him home and introduced him to his Sisters. The reunion was touching to behold, the bonding was instantaneous, and blood is for real thicker than water.

From Chinedu we got to know that Uncle
Amaechi had lost his Job due to downsizing in
the Banking industry, he now uses Daddy’s Hiace Bus to shuttle the town for money. He plies any route as long as there are passengers.

Chinedu or any of his Sons follow him as conductor, but now that three of his Sons are in higher institutions, they feel too big to follow him so Chinedu doubles as a conductor and a mechanic apprentice. Uncle Amaechi had sold the other three Cars. He had sold two of Daddy’s lands but could not sell others because he does not have the Property documents. Caroline had packed as
many of Daddy’s document immediately we
came home from the burial years back.
Uncle Amaechi’s wife used to own a Boutique but now sells vegetable at Abakpa Market.

Her earnings are too meager to support her husband.

Definitely, nemesis was catching up with them.
Captain came around on a Sunday and we all
went to visit the family of Mr and Mrs. Chinedu.

Their daughter Nkechi just put to bed and had
come home so her mother could help her nurse the Baby, her husband works off shore and will be away for three months. It was fun to be with the Chinedu’s in their home. It was like a party
scene. Mr. Chinedu in his characteristic manner gave us sermon on hard work and its reward; I was the subject of his discussion.

Rehabilitating Chinedu took us over six months
of tolerance and patience; Captain brought a
psychologist friend of his to the house while
Chinedu was at the Office, we were lectured on how to help him adapt to the new phase in his life, we were told not to hide money from his reach, because he still steals money to satisfy his addiction to Indian hemp, we were told to ensure he eats well before leaving the house for any reason, we were encouraged to make him feel as a member of the family. I gave him a spare key to my safe box where I keep casual money in the house. We changed his wardrobe and bought him a GSM Phone too. I placed him on monthly Pocket money too just as his sisters.

Captain took him out regularly to teach him how to play Basket ball; he did some medical
checkups ups on him and placed him on drugs to help clean his system. He was registered into J.S.S 1 at Command Day secondary school, the same school Tochi and Amara graduated from.

I wanted him to go to a Boarding School but
captain said it is dangerous, he said Chinedu
needed monitoring. We got a private teacher for him and me: yes myself! Captain said I will write the next G.C.E and J.A.M.B. examination.

I opted for Art subject’s since I have already
veered into business, sciences would have been too tasking for me.
