The Darkest Hour - Season 1 - Episode 9

:
Few minutes later after the funny drama which made the twins forget their pains and sorrows, Mrs Williams came back. Yet, Udoka had no idea that she wasn’t with the paper again. All were on the bed but only Monica la!d down while Udoka and their mother sat at the edge as silence lingered.

“Mother, i don’t like the way you stay late at night these days” Udoka broke the silence.
“I know both of you must be worried” the mother began. “I’m trying to find money to pay for the house bill”
“But must it be at night, mother?” Monica’s voice sounded from behind.
“That’s when those i meet are available. I’m sorry my children” the mother apologised. The horn of distance vehicles was heard at the tranquility that took over the room. Udoka felt their condition but didn’t want to bother about it. She stood up to get food for her mother.
:
12midnight
Monica could be seen physically trying to cry due to the dream she was having. She was covered with a wrapper lying face-up. Her legs moved and hands touched on the bed forcefully.
:
DREAM

Monica came closer to the bright light in the Dark Forest. Her heart beat continuously with the feelings of happiness, fear and sorrows at the same time. The rays of the bright light shone on her face while some reflected on tall trees. As she bent down to touch the ground where the light was coming from, a voice came from behind saying, “Monica..”
She turned sharply to see a man in a shadow. She couldn’t see his face but had the feelings that he was her late father. “Father?” she called.
“It’s a secret” the voice said.
“What secret?”
“The unknown”
“Where am i?” Monica looked around. She saw darkness and light created by the one from the ground. When she turned again to behold the shadow, she saw nothing. “Father? Father come back please” she began to cry..

:
REALITY

“Father, father, father!” Monica shouted thereby waking her sister and mother up. She also sat up breathing heavily.
“Monica ongini? What?” The mother asked with sleepy eyes. Udoka said nothing but stared at her to answer the question. But Monica couldn’t talk rather cried uncontrollably. So the mother brought her head closer to her chest to dry her tears.
“Mother, I’m so scared” Monica said in her arms.

“Is it still about the dark forest of a thing?” Udoka asked then Monica shook her head positively. Mrs Williams and Udoka looked at each other as if they had the same thing in mind.

“Stop crying my child” the mother consoled Monica.

D NEXT MORNING

David woke up with the thought of Udoka and the number he gave to her.
On the other hand, as Udoka began to prepare for work, so as Monica. Suddenly, she remembered the number then stood still thinking critically.
“Monica, have u seen the paper?” Udoka asked..

Mrs Williams la!d on the bed when Udoka asked Monica about the paper. Her eyes were closed but ears opened. Monica stood beside her sister with a smile instead of providing an answer to the question which got Udoka surprised. Therefore, she glanced at their mother and repeated her question in a lower voice, “Did you see the paper?”
“Yes” Monica replied selecting a cloth she wanted to wear.

“Where?”
“It fell from you yesterday”
“Can i have it, please?”
“Sure” Monica went to the pillow she slept with then brought out the paper from under and handed it to her sister who smiled as she was collecting it. She had an idea what it was all about but didn’t bother to ask in order not to look as if she was pestering her. Therefore, she kept quiet.

Udoka put the paper inside her handbag wearing just her underwears. As the quietness lingered, their mother’s voice sounded with her eyes closed, “What’s the paper all about?”

The twins stared at each other in a stationary position. “Nothing, mother” they replied simultaneously.

“It’s for my work” Udoka added to sound more convincing but the mother remained quiet thereby making them believe that the case had ended.

Sun shone, rain fell, the wind blew and storm came and gone too. Days passed but Udoka never called David which got him worried.
At the resident of Mr Robinson, David was seen coming out from his room in a simple outfit with two phones in his hand-big and small. The image of a lion could be seen behind his T-shirt as he wanted to go out but saw his mother in the sittingroom.

“David”
“Mum” David stopped behind a couch facing his mother.
“Where are u going to?”
“To see a friend”
“At where?”
“A cyber cafe”
“Male or female?”
David became fed up with his mother’s inquisition. He hate it when he is been treated or monitored like a 16 year old boy which his mother had been doing, so he said, “Mum, do u have to ask me that? I can take care of myself! I am 24 for cryingout aloud!”
“You are still a baby to me no matter what” the mother replied.
“Really?” David went closer to her, he brought his face closer to her breasts and tried to touch them too.

“David!” the mother exclaimed and pushed him away. “What do you think you are doing?!”

“I want u to breast-feed me since I’m still a baby!”

“Are you out of your mind?!”
“Yes, I’m losing my mind, so the earlier you stop treating me like a baby the better for both of us” David concluded and left the room to his mother’s amazement.
