The Darkest Hour - Season 1 - Episode 10

At the cyber cafe, David entered and glanced at his wrist watch: 5:15pm. He looked up to see Udoka whose eyes caught with his sitting before a computer. They were no customers except one who was attended to by one of the male workers. The manager could also bee seen on a seat before a computer. David greeted them and sat very close to Udoka.
“Wecome, David” she said.

“Thank God you still remember my name” David said jokingly then Udoka smiled.
“Why not?” she said. Her eyes focused on the monitor while her hands never departed from the keyboard.

“But why have you not called me?”
“I told you i don’t have a phone”
“You should have made an effort”
“What sort?”

“Like making use of someone’s phone”
Udoka decided not to continue the conversation, so she remained quiet. After David anticipated to hear from her but didn’t, he also decided not to bother her again. So he changed the topic-a funny one.
Udoka, giggled, laughed and smiled severally until it was 6:00pm. They were seen outside the cafe. David watched her locked the door as usually. When she turned, he stretched one of the phones to her standing at a very close range.

“What are you doing?” Udoka asked seriously.

“I want you to have it to enable me reach you at anytime” David replied.
Udoka smiled, “Sorry, i can’t take it”
“Why?”
“Nothing, but.. i can’t just.. take it”
“It’s from my heart. It is one of my abandoned phones. I didn’t steal it”
“Come on, David! I never said you stole them”
“Then take it!”
“I can’t!”
Divide became disappointed therefore, he gradually brought down his hand as both stared at each other in the eyes. “Can i take you out then?” he requested.
“For what?” Udoka asked.
“For a date. Please, don’t say no”
“Fine” Udoka replied as an afterthought. “I only have chance on Sundays” she added.
“Thank you” David smiled. “Meet me at this spot on Sunday evening”
“So, can i go now?” Udoka smiled too.
“Sure” David followed her to the main road.

SUNDAY 3:15PM
A heavy rain poured down from the atmosphere thereby generating an unbearable coldness. David la!d on his bed wishing that the rain stops due to the date he had with Udoka. He couldn’t stop thinking about her.

On the other hand, Udoka la!d on the long cushion thinking if the date will still be successful or not. She also wondered how to tell her sister who la!d on the bed about it. But she suddenly stood up to the bed and la!d beside her at Monica’s amazement. “I want to talk to u” she said…

Only the twins were around when the heavy rain began. Monica had to suspend what she was doing to listen to her sister who called her attention on the bed.
“Have you met a guy before?” Udoka asked.
“Guy?” Monica became surprise. “Why are we discussing about guys?”
“Coz one wants to take me out today. His name is David the owner of the number you were asking me about. We are having a date today, so i feel like letting you know. Please, mother shouldn’t hear about it” Udoka said.

Monica became quiet then eventually smiled in a way that shows: MY GESTURE WAS RIGHT. “Is okay but it’s raining” she said.
“I hope the rain stops on time”
“Alright, i got ur back” Monica smiled again.
“Why are u always smiling?” Udoka asked as she was leaving the bed back to the cushion.

“Coz the whole thing sounds new to me” Monica replied then they giggled.

After an hour and some minutes, the rain stopped. One could see David dressing up. As he was buckling his shirt, he glanced at his wrist watch: 5:25pm. After dressing, he walked out from his room to meet his father in the sittingroom. The father was in a good mood as a result of a funny T.V. programme he was watching.

“Dad?” David sat on a couch without his father responding or looking at him. So he began to watch the programme with him smiling and giggling occasionally. Few minutes later he glanced at his wrist watch and called the father again. “Dad!”
“Yes, what’s it?” the father looked at him. “And where are u going dressing like this?” he asked.

“To see my friend”
“Okay” the father concentrated.

David waited as he scratched his head coz he wanted to ask for a permission to use his father’s car. When the father noticed it, he said, “Take a fuel of container and my car. Buy fuel on ur way back”
“Okay, dad” David rejoiced and left immediately.

In front of the cyber cafe, David waited patently inside the blue camry car with black glasses. He glanced at his wrist watch again:
5:45pm. He began to lose hope.
