The Darkest Hour - Season 1 - Episode 21

The young man met Monica in the mix of her sister and friends. He looked educated, intelligent and neat to the extent Adaku began to admire him. Seeing him, Udoka remembered David. But the guy became confused when he saw identical faces.
“Are both of you twins?”

The question made Faith rolled her eyeballs and exhaled deeply. She regarded it as stupid one. “How can somebody see twins, yet ask if they are twins?” she soliloquized. Adaku understood her behaviour, therefore she smiled.

“Yes, we are” Monica replied. “Thanks for saving me from that..”
“Is okay” the young man interrupted. “You should be careful next time”

“Okay”
“I’m Enest”
“I’m Monica. This is my sister Udoka and my friends; Adaku and Faith” Monica introduced.

“Hi” Adaku waved at Enest with a smile but Faith brought down her hand.
Enest smiled. “Hi” he replied. “I must take my leave now” he gently walked out.
“Okay bye” Monica stared at him.

The main ceremony began: the women sang and danced traditionally. Of course Adaku and Faith shook their butts to their satisfaction. The twins also danced but were more interested in the beauty of the land they had always wanted to see.

It was beginning to get dark, Udoka tapped her sister and friends.
“It’s time to go home”
“Lets stay a little more” Adaku objected. “Young girls have not even danced for the prince to..”

“Adaku!” Udoka interrupted her. “It’s getting late!”
“Lets still have some fun!” Faith began to dance again.

Seeing that, Udoka held her sister and moved away. Just then a car drove after them..
The road in which the twins hurried through leaving Faith and Adaku behind had a pot-hole with stagnant water. A 4Runner car drove out gently. It had a red colour with voluminous tyres. Chief Dike was the driver. Meanwhile, the music by the women continued for the edification of the audience traditionally.
When Faith and Adaku saw the twins briskly going home, they followed them.
“These twins..” Adaku crumbled under her breath. Before they met them, the car had already gotten to the twins. Unluckily, it was at the nitch of the stagnant water. The front tyre galloped into it and water splashed on Udoka since she was at the closer position. She looked at her cloth, glanced at the movin car then hissed.

“What an insolent act?!” Faith approached.
“See this man oh!” Adaku held Udoka’s cloth lookin at the stained potion. Immediately, she pursued the car. On getting there, it stopped then Chief Dike came out. His physical appearance rendered Adaku speechless: huge body extended with bugged stomach. He wore a long traditional caftan that had the same colour with the trouser. On his feet were black pointed shoes. A huge traditional bead hung on his neck and wrist.
“Goo.. good evening sir” Adaku frowned.
“Young girl..” chief Dike paused when the other girls also came. He looked at the twins steadily. They had a minor resemblance of his late brother, Mr Williams. Being a smart girl, Udoka sensed a suspicion from his gaze.
“Sir, you splashed me..”
“Oh, sorry darling” Chief Dike interrupted after realising himself. He went to the extent of touching Udoka’s body, therefore, Faith rolled her eyeballs again.
“I can see both of you are twins. What are your names?”

“Linda and Hannah” Udoka replied instantly then all the girls stared at her amazingly.
Chief Dike wanted to become more inquisitive and offered them money but they rejected and excused themselves.

Adaku didn’t even wait for them to cross the first river, she stopped the motion of all.
“Adaku, what again?” Udoka asked.
Adaku placed her two hands on the waist, walked round, and clapped hands dramatically. “Wonders shall never end! First, both of you changed the story of coming to Ndiogoro village to going to the bush before your mother. Secondly, Monica said that she’s no stranger of Ndiogoro on our way coming. Now, tell me again, when did your names become Linda and Hannah? Gwam!” she flipped her fingers on air and back the twins.

“I didn’t want the man to know our names” replied Udoka.
“Why?” Faith asked.
“Coz he’s a total stranger! Moreover, my spirit didn’t accept his presence”
“Hmm… always having excuses” Adaku led the way followed by the girls. Everywhere became silent before Faith shouted, “Look at the masquerad!!” All screamed and took on their heels but finally began to laugh..
