Mrs Williams had been worried for not seeing her daughters for the past six hours. That was unusual. She sat at the varander waiting for them hopefully. She clenched both her teeth and seat angrily as she gazed at the local ceiling. Suddenly, she heard footsteps then straightened up to behold her daughters standing before her. Udoka tried hard to hide the stained part of her cloth while Monica met her mother on the seat. She placed her hand on her shoulder with a smile then greeted her.
“From where are both of you coming?”
“Mother, we just went to have fun with our friends” Monica replied.
“Yes, mother” Udoka smiled to cover up the lies. “I’m beginning to like the village”
The last statement gave joy to their mother. Therefore she smiled a bit.

“I’m only happy both of you didn’t come back late. By the way..” Mrs Williams changed tone. “I thought both of you suppose to go to the bush in search of mushrooms”

“We postponed it mother” replied Monica. She left her Mother then hurried inside with her sister to avoid more query.

9:00pm
Darkness covered Eziukwu village. By then, Mrs Williams had gone to bed while the daughters remained at the backyard. The chirping of cricket could be heard at a nearby bush. Monica wasn’t looking happy. Therefore, she tends to move to and fro.
“My spirit didn’t just accept that man that doused my body” Udoka broke the silence.
“That’s not my problem!” Monica stopped. “We are living a fake life! Ever since i started having this strange dreams and David coming into your picture, we have been lying here and there even to our mother!” she moved closer to her sister. “Tell me, how many lies have we lied today?”

Udoka giggled. “You are good at that. Why complaining?”
“I don’t just like it”
“Then get use to it coz it’s just the beginning”

“What do u mean?”
Udoka’s face changed to seriousness. She clenched her teeth and glanced at Monica.
“We are going to the Dark forest of Ndiogoro to see or know that which our father wanted to see or know since we know the road to it now” she replied.

Monica’s heart began to beat faster after hearing her sister. She speechlessly took another seat beside her…

Tranquility lingered between the twins. From the expression on Monica’s face, one could tell that she wasn’t gonna concur with her sister’s idea. Therefore she looked away from her hesitantly to the the darkness.
“I’m not in support of that idea”
Udoka remained quiet after taking a glance at her. She clenched her teeth again then narrowed her vision with all seriousness. That indicated she meant what she said and there was no going back.

“We have always wanted to visit our father’s village” Monica began again. “Now we have done that, lets forget anything about it. I don’t think i can follow you to the dark forest of Ndiogoro”
“Monica..” Udoka looked at her. “Don’t you think there is something about that forest?”

“That’s what i don’t want to know coz i think anything about it is not only deadly but scary”

“Have you thought of why u keep dreaming and seeing things about it?”
Monica kept quiet.
“Think about it” Udoka concluded.
