speechless, so they began to look at one another. Ugonma, who was squating down suddenly stood up looking at her parents too. Udoka detected confusion on their faces then her heartbeat increased.

“Where is David. Somebody should talk to me” her voice began to break.
“David is fine my dear” Mr Robinson replied forcefully.

“Why do you even need him? Can you recall what happened the last time both of you met?” Monica asked to know if that would decrease her anxiety to see David.
Udoka remained quiet trying to
remember. Of course she remembered how David treated and broke up with her but she said, “I don’t care, i want to
see him. Please, bring David to me, abeg you, mother” tears dropped from her eyes.
“I think you people should let her be. Shen needs a rest” the doctor said.
“Let me go get him my dear” Mrs
Williams replied as she was going out with Mr and Mrs Robinson even Ugonma. Only Monica was left in the room. She sat close to her sister with her hand on hers.
“Monica, tell me the truth, has anything happened to David?” Udoka asked again.
“No, David is fine” Monica replied.
“Then why is he not here?”
“I will explain everything to you later. Just have a rest” Monica concluded.

Outside the hospital, Mr and Mrs
Robinson contemplated on how to find David.
“Let’s start with the police” Mrs Williams suggested..

The police began to search for David. Towards evening at Mr
Robinson’s house, they arrived with the car David went out with.

Ugonma and the mother were the first to come out before the man of the house. He stood on the pavement looking at the policemen and his car.
“Sir, i guess this is yours” an officer
asked pointing at the car.
“Yes, where did you find it?” Mr
Robinson asked.
“Very far from this town. We saw it beside the road”

“What of my son?”
“We couldn’t find him even after
searching inside the bush beside the road”
Hearing that, Ugonma began to shed tears while the mother became hopeless. Just then, Mr Robinson narrowed his vision. He sighted David coming from afar.

“Is that not David?” he asked then
everybody looked back.
“David!” Ugonma ran to meet him. She slightly dragged her skirt up to enable her run faster. She hugged David without minding how horrible he smelt.

“What happened?” David asked.
“I should be asking you that” Ugonma said as they headed to the house. It was obvious that David had come back to his
senses. He became surprise when he saw the policemen and their vehicle.
“Oh, my son!” the mother hugged him but his concentration was on his father who stared at him from the pavement.

“Dad, what happened to me?” David asked.
“We should be asking you that. Where have you been since yesterday?” the father threw back the question.
“Since yesterday?” David looked around to remember. “I saw myself tied inside a forest” he began…

FLASH BACK
David was tied inside the dark forest of Ikuku on the stem of a tree. Immediately Sandra died, he regained himself. He looked around to see totems, caskets and tall trees. As he shouted, “Jesus!” the rope in which they tied him with cut off and the totems caught fire, even the tree! Then he took on his heels. It was clear that Ikuku wanted to use him as his
