Epilogue

Skye.
White, because I’m at peace with myself once more and Olive because I was ready to make peace with my past.

It was Louisa who saw me first, her eyes widened in surprise. Looks like Cherry didn’t tell them I’d be showing up.

I gripped Ben’s arm and took in a deep breath, it was quite obvious that I was nervous and sweating my insides out.
Louisa whispered to Teddy who was beside her and he turned sharply. I shrunk when his eye met mine. His eyes were warm instead of cold, his eyes gave me courage to walk up to them.

He smiled as I got to them. “I’m glad you’re here” he said. I tried to smile but I couldn’t, guilt was weighing in on me. If you were in my position, you’d understand.
I’m the girl who almost ruined their friendship, the girl who…. I stopped thinking about the wrongs I’d done and tried to focus on the present.

“I… I…. Hello” I stuttered nervously. “Took you long enough to show up, done hiding?” Louisa didn’t withhold her sharp tongue even though there was no anger and malice in her tone.

Ben cleared his throat getting them to focus their attention on him instead. “Ben, Hey” Louisa pulled him into a hug.

Ben wrapped his arms around her. “You look beautiful, as always. What are you up to these days?” He asked his eyes crinkling.
Louisa grinned “Asides dating a hot, rich, extremely handsome bachelor?” Louisa asked in a teasing note.

I looked at Teddy immediately who was gazing at Louisa with love and adoration. So they were together again….Wow.
“I’m happy for you two, I’m sorry for playing games with you two. You deserve each other” I said immediately trying to lift the weight off my chest.

Louisa smiled a little “It’s fine, it’s all forgotten now. How have you been?” Louisa asked kindly.

“Good” I said. She looked between Ben and I. “You two a thing now?” She asked.
I nodded shyly. “Good, Ben is a great guy. You’re a lucky girl. Cherry and Melvin are upstairs now with the rest of the Fadeyis. I think they are a little busy now, your dad is upstairs also . Why don’t you go upstairs and check on them, Teddy and I are ushering the guests in.” Louisa said.

I nodded again and turned to Ben. “I need some privacy, why don’t you stay with Louisa and Teddy for now” I suggested.
Ben sighed “Whatever you want, you know where to find me when you need me” He said and kissed my cheek.

I smiled and thanked him before leaving the trio.

Dad was standing by the corner of the room with a woman, one who looked nothing like Shade.

I took a deep breath and approached my father, I haven’t seen him in months. He hadn’t changed much, my chest ached when I remembered all the lies I’d told against him.

He was so engrossed in his conversation with the lady that he didn’t notice my presence.
I cleared my throat to get his attention before he turned to me.
“Skye” he said surprised. The woman sent me a small smile. “You’re… Here…Cherry…Does she know?” My father asked taking my hand immediately as if he was afraid I’d run away again.
“She invited me” I responded. “Of course she did, your sister has a big heart and a soft spot for you. I want you girls to get back together, I miss my girls” he said a sad smile on his face.

I blinked to stop myself from crying. “I miss you too” I said hugging him. He patted my back for a while before we heard his companion sniffing.

We pulled away from our embrace and looked at her in surprise. “I’m sorry, I get emotional about these kind of things” she said dabbing at her eyes with her handkerchief.

My dad patted her back comfortingly before turning to me. “Skye this is Alice, Alice and I are in a relationship. I hope with time, you two… You two will bond” My father smiled.
I saw genuine happiness in her eyes, they lit up like mine did whenever Ben was around.
“Of course, It’s nice to meet you Alice” I smiled brightly at her. “You too, your father talks endlessly about you. I hope we’ll become friends with time” Alice said with an equally bright smile.

I nodded, I’m glad to see he didn’t get back with Shade. Alice seems like an upgrade, she’s mature and looks more responsible.
Cherry looked like a dream in her wedding dress. It was exactly the one I’d seen in my mother’s wedding pictures.

Melvin was beside her, my heart dropped as shame enveloped me. I wanted to leave and run as far away as possible but my feet remained glued to the floor as I watched my sister.

As if feeling my eyes on her, she turned and saw me. I wanted to go to her but I couldn’t move my feet, I held my breath and waited for her to come to me.

She gripped Melvin’s arm and pulled him towards me. I saw that Melvin had an uncomfortable expression on his face when they got nearer.

“Congratulations” I said immediately. Cherry nodded “I thought you weren’t going to come” She said.

I shook my head and waited for any of them to say something. Cherry nudged Melvin who cleared his throat and looked at me.
“You will always be a… a sister to me Skye. Cherry is my life and you’re her family. That makes you my family, no matter what. I forgive you.” Melvin said.

I smiled and nodded at loss for words. “Why don’t you go say hi to Dad and Alice Melv” Cherry suggested not taking her eyes off me.
I shifted from one foot to the other as Melvin walked away. It was just Cherry and I now. “You look beautiful, as always” I blurted out when we were alone.
“Thanks, it’s mom’s” Cherry said brushing her hand over her dress.
“I know….” I said and stopped. Cherry sighed and pulled me into a hug. “I love you” she said rubbing my back.

That did it for me, I burst into tears embarrassing myself and probably Cherry too but she continued rubbing my back.
What did I do to deserve Cherry? Nothing, I don’t deserve her and yet I have her.
“I’m sorry….I’m sorry Cherry. Will you ever forgive me? I know I’m a terrible sister” I sobbed.

Cherry shushed me. “I love you Skye and whatever I said that day, it was out of anger. You were and still are mother’s gift to me. I don’t ever want to lose you, I forgive you baby and all that happened doesn’t matter anymore. I have you here, I have Melvin and I have every other thing to make me happy” Cherry said.

Did dad say she had a big heart? he was wrong. Her heart was gigantic, gigantic enough to forgive and forget my mistakes.
She cupped my face and kissed my forehead.
“I love you Skye” She repeated.
“I love you too….” I said with a sob.

And I did… in the end, all that mattered was my sister. I love her, and I’ll never do anything to ruin our relationship again because nothing and no-one in this world was worth losing my sister for.
