Olive green, need I say much? The color already speaks it’s meaning. The olive branch for peace, forgiveness, reconciliation. I wanted all that….but could I get it?

A plane ticket and a wedding invitation! Skye was surprised when she got an envelope sent by Cherry the following week, she had expected to see a note of a warning but she’d gotten a plane ticket and a wedding invitation to Calabar for Cherry’s wedding instead.

Skye felt tears slipping from her eyes as she looked at the invitation card. “Are you okay, what was in the envelope, something wrong at home?” Ben asked curiously as he watched from the other side of the room.
“Nothing is wrong, everything is fine. The mail is from from Cherry” Skye started wiping away the stray tears on her face.
“And, why are you crying?” Ben asked wondering why she’d become so emotional after seeing the contents of the mail.
“I…wasn’t expecting her to send me an invitation to her wedding” Skye said.
Ben frowned and took a seat in front of her.
“She’s your sister, why did you think she wouldn’t send you an invitation?” Ben asked.

Skye shook her head refusing to say anything to sate his curiosity but Ben had had enough of her secretiveness.
“Skye talk to me….why did you leave home? And don’t freaking tell me that bull story you told Olivia about needing space and finding yourself” Ben said crossly.

Skye looked away and shook her head again. The motion annoyed him and he was about to say something about it when she spoke up.
“What are you saying?” Skye said trying to feign ignorance.

Ben used his fingers to tilt her face back to his. “I’m saying that I want the truth this time, no bullshït. And I want it now” Ben said.
Skye swallowed the huge bile in her throat and considered telling him the truth. She didn’t want to lose his love, his friendship or his respect, but she knew she’d lose it all if he found out what she’d done elsewhere or from someone else.
“I offended Cherry, I did a lot things. Terrible things I am ashamed to speak of” Skye started.

“I want to hear them, I’m not a fool Skye. I know you’re not just roses, I know you have hidden skeletons in your closet. I do too, I want to know your secrets” Ben urged.
Skye sighed “I wanted Melvin for myself, I’ve always loved him. Or at least I thought it was love, now that I think about it, it wasn’t. I didn’t love him, I realized that it was because I’ve always eyed and wanted everything Cherry owned. She’s my big sister, I love her and I care for her but I’ve always envied her. She has always been better at everything and I’m just me… Plain Jane. For the first time, I wanted to…..to surpass her” Skye explained nervously. She’d tried to keep it short in hopes that he wouldn’t ask for more, like what exactly she’d done.

Ben shook his head in disagreement “You’re not plain Jane, you’re beautiful. And there are so many things that you can do that Cherry won’t be able to do in a million years. Don’t put yourself down like that, you and your sister are completely different but you’re both special in your own way” Ben said soothingly.

Skye sighed “You’re the one to talk, You were also in love with her weren’t you?” Skye said sadly, she thought about it a lot but she’d never brought it up until today.
“It wasn’t something serious , it was a silly boy crush I grew out of. Cherry is adorable, brilliant and beautiful. And yes I did have feelings for her as a boy, but it doesn’t hold a candle to my feelings for you” Ben said.

“Do you think she’ll forgive me?” Skye asked with liquid hope shining in her eyes.
“Of course she will, she loves you. That’s why she sent you the wedding invitation and the plane ticket” Ben said.
Skye smiled a little and nodded. Yes, she thought so too. Cherry wasn’t as malicious as she was, she wouldn’t have invited her to the wedding if she wanted nothing to do with her.

“You sent her what?!” Melvin shouted surprised and outraged. Cherry sighed and held up her hand. “I sent her a plane ticket and an invitation card, but hear me out…” Cherry began.

Melvin blew his top. “I don’t want to hear a thing, you sent Skye a plane ticket to Calabar and an invitation to our wedding. Are you freaking kidding me? The same Skye who tried to ruin us, our relationship and our clique?” Melvin shouted.

“My sister” Cherry said calmly. “Yes, your spoiled, scheming, selfish, pretentious little sister” Melvin added.

“Melvin, look It’s been months. Skye is my family and I love her. I have taught her a lesson and I know she’s learnt her lesson. I believe in her that she’s changed. I want my sister back and if you love me and want to be a part of my life, a part of my family, then you have to forgive her. I’ve sent her a plane ticket already, she’s coming. Just be ready to see her” Cherry said.

Melvin sighed “Cherry, have you thought this through, are you sure you want her back in your life? What she did to you, to us, to our friends, to your father, can you ever forget it?” Melvin asked.

Cherry nodded “I’m getting married to you aren’t I? I’ve forgiven and forgotten it all” Cherry said.

Melvin nodded and remained silent for some minutes. He wanted to please Cherry so he agreed. “Then I’m good with it, I support you” he said.

Cherry sighed and wrapped her arms around him. “Thank you, I knew you’d understand. I love you” Cherry said.

“Love you too” Melvin kissed her forehead. Cherry smiled and eyed the painting on the other side of the room. Nostalgia, homesickness.

It was time for her baby sister to come home, time for the lost sheep to return to the flock.
