Story: True Life Story Of An Addict

In the waters of fear,
In the wilderness of uncertainty;
Earth stood still: loft and clear,
Vanity of vanity, all is vanity!

Elements of melancholic trances,
Engulfed in tragic nuances;
Life is not fair, some call it a bit*h,
A blood-sU-Cking destructive leech.

Life and death stood face to face,
Sweeping across all ages, tribe and race;
Who can evade her fangs?
She hits you with a bang!

Looking at the eyes of people you love,
Knowing you might see them no more;
Eternal fuss of glory or pain,
Let it slide, bring the rain!

She stood akimbo, dazed,
The gory of death flashes;
Please help me she cried out,
My best I tried, until her life was snuffed out.

This is no story for fun,
What is done is done;
Shine on me oh blessed sun,
Envelop me in bliss, take away my mourn.

Shadows of ghostly ride,
Fleeing the brightest light;
I did not sign up for this,
Life, peace, joy and health my wish. (This I pray for everyone reading this)

To dust we all must return,
In the fullness of time, answer Mother earth’s call;
From the first light until dawn,
Live a good life until you leave this terrestrial ball.

Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no m0an!ng of the bar,
When I put out to sea.

This life is not our own,
Twas given out as a loan;
With death we all signed an oath,
Love the good, the evil loath.

What you sow you must reap,
You can’t run from it or leap;
On the ground stamp your feet,
On your throne please seat.

I pray you will not die,
May you rise and fulfill your dreams;
Though the struggles may now be rife,
Relax, it will soon wash away like a flowing stream.

Ini and I prayed together. Well that was the first time though. And like one rightly said, but a half-truth actually, most of the things we do is bleep each other. I think everybody is guilty of this. We don’t think to pray to God when things are fine. We only remember Him when we have issues: unemployment, admission, in need of financial help or any other spiritual matters. That’s the rationale behind human being’s attitude to relative situations. An average human sees no need to pray when he’s got all or half, even some of all he ever wanted. The shocking revelation however is that life waits for no invitation. Humans are so vulnerable and weak, always at the mercies of what life is got for them. Though we all wish to have a good life, have a good job, marry a godly woman, raise godly children, ride the best cars, live in our own built house in the most exotic places in our geographic location, one thing we must not forget to remember is that, WE ARE NOT IN ABSOLUTE CONTROL of our lives, God is.

It never crossed my mind to pray with Ini until that time. In fact who be that guy wey dey pray with girl wey in they pray? You dey pray before you do wrong? Lol. I have never seen anyone who prays before committing sin. But on that day, Ini and I prayed. She wept bitterly and I almost subscribed to it. It was one moment filled with fear and sincerity when she came around around during her break.

Ini: I love you so much.

Me: I love you too baby. I will not lose you now.

Ini: I need to go back to shop now please.

Me: Ok. I’ll get back to you later.

Lost for what to say, clueless of where to go, I did,’t call Ini as promised. I was in the bathroom when Ini’s call came through. I missed it. I summoned courage to call her back and we went over the same thing again. I encouraged her not to focus on the dream and its interpretation anymore; rather, to focus on what God can do. I declined talking to Deola all through. She called and called and called, no answer. When I got tired of her calls, I switched off my phone. I instructed Garfar to tell Deola that I am not at home if she comes around. I guess you all know what I will be doing on Sunday right? Yes! I went to church on Sunday to pray for Ini. Her name was on my lips at every interval of prayers, even if the prayer is about personal request.

Alas! Death outsmarted us.

I resumed work on Monday as planned. Cheers everywhere: hugs, pecks, handshakes and well wishes. I made sure I was not carried away with the euphoria. Ini was always on my mind but I tried to hide it, even from my boss.

Oga: Welcome back Femi. Hope you’re better now?

Me: Yes I am, sir. I am roaring to go.

Oga: Relax. Take things slow, ok?

Me: Yes sir.

Thank God for the cleaners, my table would have been a mess. Imagine a table starved of use for a whole two weeks! I rearranged my table and got set for work. Everything looks perfect, ordered and in line. I resolved with Deola by lying to her that I was praying all the time she was calling,

Deola: And when did you become a pastor that prays for 48hrs?

Me: Never doubt the power of prayers woman. Besides, I was praying for safety as I resume now.

Deola: Ok ooo. I wish you a happy resumption.

Me: Thanks darling.

Day 1 passed.

Day 2 passed.

And on the fourth day, the unexpected happened. I felt chilly that morning when I woke up. Something doesn’t just seemed right. I thought its just one of those weird days that you know something bad is gonna happen but you can’t really place it. ini called me that morning that she will going to collect something on behalf of her madam that morning.

Me: Ok. Don’t stay long alright.

Ini: I won’t. Have a nice day love.

Me: You too.

I wished now that I had instructed her not to leave home. I wished I was a prophet that day, I would have foretold what was about to happen to her that morning. Exactly 8:33am that morning, my phone rang. The caller was Ini. So with joy, I answered,

Me: Hello baby.

Caller: Sorry. Are you Femi?

Me: Who is this?

Caller: The owner of this phone just had an accident opposite Law School…and I think she’s dead!
