Must Read: Behind The Veil

“You never told me how much you make too from your modelling career.” Sadiq.

“Mine is based on per show, week and year.” She replied.
“Per year then.” Sadiq.
“Per year roughly 7 million naira.” She claimed.
“That’s something!”
“Yes it is. Your turn.” She said.
“Each copy sold for a thousand naira and roughly we’ve sold about hundred thousand copies.”

“That’s over ten million naira!” Vanessa.

“Yes. And still counting.” He grinned.
“Wow!” Exclaimed Vanessa. “You don’t even act like you got that kind of cash in your account.”
“Neither do you.” He glanced at the ring on her finger. “I take that back. You do act like someone that has a frightening account balance.”
She smiled. “I know. If i don’t spend it, who will?”
Everyone loves the weekend. Apart from the fact that its a work free day, its also the day a lot of wedding bells are ranged and red jollof rice is served hot with moi moi and fried meat.

But today being saturday is not about any wedding, at least not entirely, it’s about the fundraiser hosted by Vanessa’s grand dad. There were hundreds of medium sized round table decorated with pure white cloth. It looked ethereal, one would have mistaken it for a wedding.

Few hours later the place was crowded reasonably. Sadiq and Vanessa walked hand in hand, greeting several dignitaries and smiling back at the random people that waved at them.

“Sarah said she is here!” Vanessa to Sadiq.

And before Sadiq could say a thing they sighted Sarah and Jojo waltzing toward them.
“And she came with Jojo.” Sadiq.
“Be nice okay?” Vanessa sensing that Sadiq wasn’t comfortable with Jojo’s presence.
“I will try. Thank God Eze isn’t here.

Otherwise it would have been one awkward day.”
“Yes true. Except that he is here!” Vanessa.
“What! Where?” asked Sadiq.
“Hey Vanessa” Sarah hugging her.
Sadiq and Jojo exchanged handshakes.
“I didn’t know you were coming.” Vanessa to Sarah.
“It was a last minute thing.” Replied Sarah.

“Can you guys excuse me” Sadiq..
“Eze.” Sadiq approaching him from behind.
“How far?” he asked. He was well dressed. They all were well dressed.

“I am good man. I didn’t know you were invited.” Sadiq revealing how surprised he was to see him.

“No i wasn’t.” he replied, staring at the small gathering formed by Vanessa, Sarah and JoJo.

“Dude hope you didn’t come for Sarah?!” Sadiq observing the way his eyes trailed Sarah.

“Why else did you think i am here! I know she still loves me. I just have to make her see it.” he said confidently.

“Please don’t cause any drama. Vanessa and i are planning a drama of our own.” Sadiq.
“Don’t worry. You won’t even notice my presence.” Eze, grabbing a glass from the wait staff’s tray and gulping it down.

Worriedly Sadiq approached Vanessa. “I think there is going to be more drama than we planned.” he said to her.

“Even worse. Jennifer is here too!” She informed him, directing her gaze to where Jennifer was happily being photographed by the paparazzi.

Who doesnt love a bit of drama?

Jennifer walked towards them.
“Surprised to see me? I won’t miss the fundraiser for anything. I have a few naira to give out too.” she smiled and walked away.

“Dont fret we will be fine.” Sadiq assured her, noticing how worried her face looked. “For the first time we will be the ones playing our card first.”

Eze sat alone, waiting patiently for Sarah to be alone. He finally stood up when he saw her excusing herself from Jojo. She climbed the stairs and entered the ladies rest room.
Holding the door handle down, he opened the ladies rest room, closed it and turned the key.

“Hello Sarah. I know you’re in there.”
A door opened and their eyes met.
“What are you doing in the ladies rest room!”
“After almost a year plus that’s the best you could say to me?”

“There is nothing left to say. You blew it and Jojo proved he is man enough, not like the boy you’re.”

He grabbed her, pulling her closer. “You want a man? I can be that man. Just let me….”
She pulled away from him, avoiding the kiss he almost placed on her lips.

“You can never be good enough for me.

I wonder what i even saw in you in the first place!” she opened the door, leaving him sitting on the floor.

“Are you all right?” Jojo asked Sarah. “You look flushed.”

“I’m fine.” and she looked away. Her gaze fell on Eze who was at the far corner, gulping down more drinks.

“What is he doing?” Vanessa to Sadiq.

“Obviously getting drunk.” Sadiq. “Maybe i should go talk to him.” he said, attempting getting up.

“Not now. After you propose.” She said holding him back.

Few minutes later, Sadiq fell off the chair, landing on the floor with his face facing the sky.

He wasn’t moving!
A crowd quickly formed around them. Vanessa bent down.

“He is not breathing! I think he needs a mouth to mouth resuscitation.” She said then held his nostril slightly and her lips met with his. Her lips invaded his and after ten seconds, his chest heaved and she pulled away.

“Well done!” the crowd applauded her heroism. After kissing him back to life, she had kissed an object out of his mouth; it was a ring!
She held it in shock, while Sadiq was kneeling down.
