The morning of the following day…

Nkechi: V, stop crying it’s not like she is dead. I believe she will be found.
Vanessa: what if she is dead already?
Nkechi: God forbid! I am sure she will come back safely.
Vanessa has been crying since morning when Jayjay called to inform them that his younger sister has been kidnapped. She was saddened by the news to the extent she couldn’t eat, she kept on crying while Nkechi tried her best to console her.
Nkechi: get up please, go and bath let me make something for you to eat.
Vanessa: N-K thanks, i hope the police finds her soon.
Nkechi: i am sure they will, go and bath and come out.

Mr. Agaba: how did it go?
Officer: well, it went well, we got our best men on it immediately you showed us the text.
Mr. Agaba: i am so happy, have you found the person yet?
Officer: yes, we have but unfortunately, he was not a criminal nor does he have anything to do with your daughter’s disappearance.
Mr. Agaba: how do you mean?
Officer: it turned out that the person that sent the text to you was just a teenager playing pranks.
Mr. Agaba: how did he know that my daughter is missing.
Officer: first of all, all the people that attended your party knows that your daughter is missing and you know that news spreads fast.
Mr. Agaba: are you sure he is really just playing pranks?

Officer: we are very sure about that, the young boy was only playing pranks, we have thoroughly done our investigations.

Martha was sitting calmly in the room that she has been since she was kidnapped, it was a nicely furnished room. She sat down pondering on why she was kidnapped and why she was being treated like a queen even in captivity.
She was sitting like that when the door to the room opened, she didnt even bother to look, as she already knew that it was the guy who usually brings her food for her.
Tunde: miss, come and eat your food.
Martha: (she began thinking if she should accept it or just reject it although she was terribly hungry) leave it there.
Tunde: what an attitude?
Martha: (turning to face him) what? Why are you two and who are you.
In her anger, she didnt realize that they were three in the room instead of two, it was when she turned, that she realized that apart from the masked guy who usually brings food to her, another older man was there and to her greatest surprise he wasn’t even masked, his face wasn’t covered, he was even showing his white-turned-brown teeths probably due to tobacco to her.

Martha: (with hatred and anger) who are you?
Mr. Ubah: who i am doesn’t matter, what matters is why i am here.
Martha: (her voice became soft when she heard him speak calmly) why are you here?
Mr. Ubah: (moves close and sits next to her, as she looks at him fearfully) I came to see you, you have grown into a beautiful young woman, i can vividly remember when the baby was born, she was such a pretty baby, i knew she would grow up to become a pretty woman.
His words left both Martha and Tunde very confused.
Martha: sir, i am confused here, which baby are you telling me about.
Mr. Ubah: never mind. How are you doing?
Martha: fine.
Mr. Ubah: hope they treated you well.
Martha: i still don’t get why i am here.
Mr. Ubah: well, sorry for using the hard method but the only reason why you are here is because i needed to see you face to face.

Martha: why do you need to see me?
Mr. Ubah: it is a reason you will never understand, even if i use a whole day to explain it to you.
Martha: i still dont understand this, do you know me?
Mr. Ubah: yes i know you.
Martha: how? From where?
Mr. Ubah: you ask alot of questions.
Martha: oh, so when am i going back to my parents since you have seen me now.
Mr. Ubah: now.

Tunde: what? Chief, i thought we were supposed to get rid of her after you meet her.
Mr. Ubah: i never said anything about getting rid of her.
Tunde: but you said something about wiping out the entire family.
Mr. Ubah: i said so, but unfortunately i changed my mind about her, we will spare her.
Tunde: why should we spare her chief?
Mr. Ubah: because i love her like my own flesh and blood.
Martha: i don’t understand any of this o.
Mr. Ubah: we will let you go safely without any harm on one condition.
Martha: what is the condition?
Mr. Ubah: you won’t say a word about any of this to anybody or even the police.
Martha: i promise you i won’t tell anyone, just let me go please.
Mr. Ubah: are you sure you won’t tell anyone?
Martha: sir, i promise you i wont tell anyone, just let me go, i don’t even know where i am, how can i describe this place to the police.
Mr. Ubah: good, take care of yourself, if you are asked, you can say that you were taken to a bush or somewhere and you where later released when the people that took you found out that they took the wrong person.

Martha: (kneeling down) thank you sir, i wont tell anyone, i promise.
Mr. Ubah: T, take her back to the house the same way she came, be very vigilant cos the police are searching for her.
Tunde: yes chief
