Mr. Tiav’s sentence echoed in my head. “I want you to help me catch this criminal”.

I looked at philip and he was smiling.

“sir that wouldn’t be a problem, you just have to tell us eveything we need to know” philip spoke.

“you dont need to know anything, all you have to do is to follow me to where i am going to give money to someone, you will help me grab him before he runs”. Mr. Tiav replied harshly. I hate it when you want to help someone and he starts acting as if he is doing you a favour. Moreover, who is going to show his face when blackmailing you?

“Sir, why are you telling us? Why not involve the school security?” i spoke before thinking of the repercussion.

If only eyes could kill, i would have died from the kind of look philip gave me.

“This matter is very sensitive, i wouldn’t want it to be open. Can i trust you guys?”

“Yes sir.” we replied in unison.

“Good, let me have your number” he pointed at philip.

Philip called out his number to him.
“Whats that your name again?” he asked.

“Philip sir.”

“Okay, philip i will call you as soon as i receive information from the criminal” mr tiav informed us.

I was becoming uncomfortable with the whole setup but who am i to disobey the will of God?

We left the office without telling the man what brought us to his office.

Philip was very happy that everything was going according to plan. I had a bad feeling about the situation but i just let it pass as a normal hunch. The worst thing i can be involved in now is police but
Mr.Tiav had made it clear we were the only players in the game. Ofcourse it was a game and it was governed by laws, failure to keep to those laws would fetch a card which could be fatal. But unlike every normal game, we were playing for both sides leaving mr.tiav as the only player in his team. It would be a disgrace if a ‘one man squad’ beat our ‘star studded’ side.

Cynthia called on our way home. She complained that i was avoiding her, and apologised if she had done anything wrong. I assured her nothing was wrong.

After the call, i started thinking of Amaka.

She hadn’t called me since the mr fresher night. She just has this way of calming your mind and when you think it is over, she would show up with her blackmail.

I started feeling guilty, Amaka was blackmailing me and i felt bad but here i was blackmailing another person. What am i becoming? Just my first year in the university and i am already blackmailing a staff, what would happen when i reach my final year?
“Oboy, wetin dey happen na? Dis one wey you dey silent, wetin your babe tell you” philip asked when he noticed i wasn’t listening to what he was saying.

“nothing o, she just the complain say i dey avoid am” i replied.

“me i don tell you say make you look for new girl, enjoy your life. Yolo o”[B] he advised.

[B] N:B YOLO means you only live once.

Philip’s phone rang and he picked it up.
“okay sir, am on my way” he said and ended the call.

He informed me that Mr.tiav was going to the skye bank on the campus to Withdraw money for the exchange.

“so soon?” i exclaimed
Everything was happening very fast.

I usually dont like life on a fast lane. It doesn’t give you time to think of a plan b.

My philosophy of life was ‘slow and steady wins the race’.

“Musa na sharp guy na, i trust am” philip said amidst smiles. He was really enjoying the moment.

We walked home and musa was already coming out.

“Guys everything don dey in place, make we dey go” master musa commanded us. I wanted to tell him about what mr.tiav told us but philip pricked me and i shut up.
We were on our way when philip’s phone beeped. It was a text, mr.tiav just sent him the location of the transaction.

“na wetin be that?” musa asked him
“na vivian text me o” philip replied him.

Whats with all these secrecy? I thought inwardly.

We reached the venue and it was filled with students. We picked a story building and went to the third floor. We stood there watching the delivery point. Few minutes later, mr.tiav came with a black leather. He dropped it inside a waste bin, brought out his phone and called musa.

After ringing for the second time, musa picked the call.

“i see you just dropped the package, go to the bus stop and pick a bus to north core, i shall give you further information” musa told him and ended the call. We watched as he was going to the bus stop but something caught my attention. A guy walked to the waste bin, dropped something and removed the black leather. I showed musa the guy and he told us to keep an eye On mr.tiav while he follow the guy.

After musa left, mr.tiav called philip. Philip picked the call and put it on loud speaker.

Mr.tiav spoke quickly as if he had a hot ball of food in his mouth “I just dropped the money, make sure you follow the criminal”.
