Take it easy! He said, it is important I give you
an update of what happened to you. I relaxed,
and then I gave him a “thumbs up”: He
continued: we operated on you and fixed your
ribs then we cleaned the blood in your system.

There is a P.O.P on your right arm. Your face
is not in a good shape but not to worry,
everything will heal up in due course. We shall
replace your teeth with an artificial. There is a
drip attached to your right arm now and will be there till you are able to use your mouth.

I was upset, I hit my hand on the bed
severally, I kicked into the air and the pain
from that action sent me screaming out, I felt
like my mouth was been torn apart as more
pain sent me back to where I had just come
from. I fainted again.

I spent two months at the Hospital, by which
time I had fully recovered save from the pain
in my Chest and the P.O.P I was still wearing.

Silvia visited me at the Hospital every day I
stayed there, Cordellia always came around,
madam Ronke and some of my former
Colleagues visited, many of our Clients visited
me too, madam Joana came every single day
and slept there some days, of course Mr.
Chinedu was always there to drop and pick the
wife. One of the Doctors Captain Ayo took
special interest in my case, when I was strong
enough to talk; he invited the military Police to
take my statement at the hospital.

I narrated everything that had happened in our lives from the death of my father till my brutal encounter to the Military Police. They listened to all I told them and wrote down only what transpired between me and my Sisters and Lawal’s attack.

They returned to accuse me that my elder
Sister Caroline said Lawal had beaten me in
self defense. They said I had attacked Lawal
with a Knife when he was trying to settle the
dispute between my sisters and I and I had
attacked him and in his bid to defend himself, I
was injured. I denied vehemently but they
asked for my witness. They said my Elder
Sister could not have fabricated such a lie
against me. They also reminded me that I had
done same thing years ago at my father’s
burial, and I also stabbed my Sisters with
needles, so they concluded that I was capable
of killing a human being and advised the
doctor to take me to a psychiatric home. I
cried helplessly as I saw justice eluding me.

How could someone do this to me and go
free?

I left the Hospital in the company of the Mr.
and Mrs. Chinedu, Cordellia and Silvia. We all
drove to the Batcher to collect few of my
belongings as Cordellia was taking me to her
house; Cordellia was in his Fourth year now
having passed her third MB examination
seamlessly. As I came down from Cordellia’s
car with my Crutches, Caroline and Lawal were
just leaving the House, they saw us as we
parked and alighted the cars but they simply
ignored us, they climbed Lawal’s Bike and
zoomed off. Pauline stood by a block, some
twenty meters to the Batcher staring at us;
she never came closer till we left. Silvia left
with me. It was august 18th 2000, it was my
birthday. The day I had planned to officially
opened my outfit for business “Derbie Couture”

I had planned that the business be born the
same day with me.
