but its like the devil that has been following me will not let
anything good come my way, just as I am kissing madam Oga
appears at the door of the kitchen. When he sees us he is so
suprised he drops his phone and bellows my name! ”Okon!”
Madam runs out past her husband and leaves me to face certain
death alone. Oga’s face is red with anger! His mouth works
rapidly but no sound comes out of it. The veins on his head are
standing out, he takes a step towards me, clutches his heart and
slowly sinks to the ground, all the while staring at me in shock
and disbelief. I rush to grab him before he hits the ground. I
scream and madam , Etim and Lepa rush in , ”what? what?” They
ask. Madam probably thinks oga has stabbed me, but when I
shout, ”help, I think oga is having a stroke!” I see her face
brighten up momentrarily but she quicly masks it and takes
charge. Madam drives to the hospital rapidly. All through I am
supporting Oga behind although he cannot talk the hatred in his
eyes are so eloquent.

the Doctor confirmed my fears, Oga had a stroke.

He could not
walk or talk, but he kept trying to say something.

He glared at us
evily as we dressed him up, all the while babbling inchoherently.

But occassionally a complete word made it through, and one
kept making me wince , ”twiator!” I hope it is only me and
madam who understood what he was really trying to say.

”TRAITOR!” The Doctor asked if he had gotten a bad shock but I
deny that vehemently. We were just talking when he slumped I
said. Obviously oga can hear because he starts babbling more
enegertically after my latest betrayal. Madam is the perfect
picture of the distressed wife, but I can see a twinkle in her sultry
eyes.

oga does not recover. He is more or less a vegetable. He has
come back home I and madam have to babysit him. He can’t
bathe himself or poo. I have to carry him and wash him up! This
is more than I bargained for! It is only me and madam who really
knows what really happened. That in itself has made us closer.

At night she will leave oga and come to sleep in my room. I can’t
believe I could be so cruel. Then the other night she and Lepa
came into my room and scre’wed me untill I begged for mercy.
Lepa does not seem bothered by oga’s condition. What kind of
devils are we?

Days stretch into weeks but oga does not improve. He is just
there glaring at us with hatred. Then one sunday evening madam
calls me into the study and shows me oga’s will. He has willed
everything to her! She watches me intently as I read the will, and
I amseized with fright because I know what is coming next. She
creeps up to me and hisses like a serpent, ”kill him!”
